Sermon Summary 6/7/2026
Pastor Emeritus R. J. Wilson
Topic: The Worldwide Web: Remembering Yesterday
Scripture: Joshua 4:1–7; 1 Corinthians 11:23–27
Today’s message reminded us that God changes times and seasons according to His will, and our responsibility is to follow Him without adding our own mixture. Using Joshua 4, Rev. Wilson showed how God commanded Israel to take twelve stones from the Jordan River as a memorial. Those stones were not just rocks; they were a reminder that God had brought His people over and was still keeping them.
The sermon connected that memorial to Communion in 1 Corinthians 11, where Jesus said, “This do in remembrance of me.” Just as Israel was commanded to remember what God had done at Jordan, believers are commanded to remember what Christ did through His death, burial, and resurrection.
Rev. Wilson used the “worldwide web” as an example of how God has allowed mankind to advance for His purpose and glory. While earlier generations had limited tools like radio, revivals under tents, and word of mouth, today the gospel can reach millions with the push of a button. The message challenged both young and old to stop being afraid of learning and to use modern tools to spread the Word of God.
The sermon also looked back at “yesterday” — a time when families gathered around radios, respected elders, worked hard, and followed instruction. Pastor reminded the church that although times have changed, the need for love, obedience, humility, and reverence for God has not changed.
A major warning came from Matthew 24. Jesus said there would be wars, rumors of wars, famine, pestilence, false prophets, hatred, betrayal, and the love of many growing cold. Rev. Wilson reminded the church that we are seeing many of these things now, but believers must not be deceived, distracted, or hateful.
The message closed with a call to endure until the end. The gospel must be preached throughout the world before the end comes, and the worldwide web is one way God is allowing that to happen.
Remember what God has done, use what God has provided, and stay faithful until the end. God is still speaking, still saving, and still using every generation for His glory.
