Mary Ann Williams Qualls, 91, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, May 17, 2025.
Born at the home place in Hollister on June 28, 1933, to the late Thomas Conrad and Annie Crawley Williams, Mary Ann was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 63 years Tracy Carlton Qualls, Jr, whom she married in 1956, and her daughter, Cynthia Ethel Qualls.
Surviving are her son, Tracy Carlton Qualls III, and wife Frances, of Hollister, daughter, Lou Ann Qualls Wollett, and husband, Art, of Wake Forest, son, Thomas Patrick Williams Qualls, and wife, Jen, of Roanoke Rapids; grandchildren, Thomas Carlton Qualls (Jeremy), Sarah Wollett Midgette (Justin), Aaron Wollett (Addison), Zach Wollett, Christian Wollett, Trace Wollett, Kendall Qualls, Hunt Qualls, and Avery Qualls. Also surviving are her great grandchildren, Everly, Delaney, and McKinley Midgette, Anna Marie and Franklin Qualls, and Fisher Wollett.
Mary Ann was a graduate of Wake Forest College and began her life of service as a school teacher before embracing her greatest calling — becoming a mother — and pouring her energy, creativity, and wisdom into raising her family.
She was a talented seamstress and a self-taught quilter who made several quilting frames to hand quilt her beautiful masterpieces. She taught two quilting classes — one in the 80’s and 90’s for the ladies of Harris Chapel Baptist Church, and one beginning in 2015 for the ladies of Faith Tabernacle Church.
Mary Ann was an accomplished cook and loved to prepare large meals for her family and friends. She was well known for her soups that she took to the sick and elderly as well as her biscuits and cinnamon rolls.
She was happiest at home and filled her hours with many activities such as gardening, freezing and canning food, knitting, crocheting, woodworking, painting, embroidery, needlepoint, chair caning, basket weaving, rug braiding, and furniture refinishing to name a few.
Mary Ann was a life-long member of Harris Chapel Baptist Church where she taught the Women’s Sunday School class for years. Her faith was the cornerstone of her life and her devotion to God was evident in the way she lived and loved, leaving a lasting impact on her community and all who loved her.
A private graveside service conducted by Pastor Ed West will take place at Faith Tabernacle Church.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to her team of caregivers — Lucy Ann Silver, Shander Rudd, Vonnie Burgess, and Minnie Hedgepeth — as well as Gentiva Hospice, especially Baylee Clark, for their exemplary care of Mama over the last year.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Faith Tabernacle Church for the Carlton and Mary Ann Qualls Endowment Fund.
