DID YOU KNOW?
Each year approximately 6,000 children accompany their parents to Ottawa County from February to late November. Many of them are second and third generation migrant workers. This stream from Texas and Florida has existed for over 45 years and is one of the largest populations of seasonal workers in Michigan. Every three dollars invested to an early child development program yields 17 dollars in return to the community and society in general.
ABOUT US........
Buen Pastor Ministries, Inc. (Good Shephard) was established in 1989, when a core group of individuals in the community saw that there was a need to keep young children of migrant farm workers out of the fields. They created an Early Childhood Program for these children that would offer them a safe learning environment while their families work picking blueberries. The organization will be celebrating 30 wonderful years of service to the migrant community. We are located at Third Reformed Church in Holland and have been providing a quality full day early childhood /childcare program for children, ages two weeks through five years of age, during the summer months for almost three decades.
HOW YOU CAN HELP…
Community support is critical to the success of our organization. Sometimes we forget that there are children in our own community that need our help both through prayer and financially. Buen Pastor fills a critical need for these children and their families. We do it because we care, we are passionate and we want to make sure these children have equal opportunities for growth as their peers. As part of our fundraising efforts we are reaching out to our local community partners for financial support for our program. Our goal is to raise $30,000 ($1,000 for each year we have been open) in community support, so that we can continue to provide high quality services to these children and their families in the year 2019.
Knowing how blessed we are to be in a community that is generous in their support of programs for children, we are confident we will reach our goal.
