A MESSAGE FROM OUR PASTOR:
My dear parishioners and guests,
On behalf of Fr. Ryan, Deacon Dave and the parishioners of St. Bede the Venerable Parish, I welcome all of the visitors and pilgrims who join us for the spiritual and community festivities that are part of our annual Padre Pio Festival weekend. May this weekend nourish your body, soul, and spirit. That is what Padre Pio did through his priestly life, when many people came to his monastery. Our hope is that this weekend will carry on his mission.
Today we welcome in a special way the shepherd of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, our Archbishop Nelson Perez. He will lead us in prayer at the Solemn Mass in honor of Padre Pio at 12:30pm, and walk in the procession following Mass. During the Mass, he will, by a decree that I will read, designate St. Bede Church as the
Archdiocesan Shrine of Padre Pio. Through this shrine we will continue, by our Padre Pio Prayer Group which meets monthly, as well as welcoming pilgrims throughout the year, who pray before his statue and relic, Padre Pio’s desire to bring others to Jesus Christ.
As far as this weekend’s festivities, here is a summary of the spiritual events: On Saturday evening, our 5:30pm Mass will be in honor of Padre Pio. After the Mass there will be an opportunity to be blessed by the glove of Padre Pio.
All weekend, various relics will be on display for your veneration in our Padre Pio Chapel, located below our main church. Included in the relics are the blood-stained glove, the bandage he wore that covered the stigmata wound on his side, and a veil that covered Padre Pio’s face when he was first entombed.
On Sunday the Main Mass is at 12:30pm. This will be followed by a street procession with Padre Pio’s statue. The route is on Page 3 of this bulletin. Following the
procession at approximately 3:00pm there will be a
Healing Service during which the faithful will be blessed with holy oil and the veneration of Padre Pio’s glove.
Confessions will be available during the 12:30pm Mass, during the procession, and again during the Healing Service. Several priests will be available.
I leave you with this quote from Padre Pio: “At times Our Lord makes you feel the burden of the cross. This burden seems intolerable to you. But as for you, carry it because the Lord extends His hand and gives you strength.”
Come to the festival, where Padre Pio will place your hand in Jesus’.
May God bless you.
