“Grief is normal and natural, but we have been ill prepared to deal with it. Grief is about a broken heart, not a broken brain. All efforts to heal the heart with the head fail because the head is the wrong tool for the job. It’s like trying to paint with a hammer—it only makes a mess.”
Perhaps many of you were sent into life with several pieces of misinformation about dealing with loss.
1. Don’t feel bad.
2. Replace the loss.
3. Grieve alone.
4. Just give it time.
5. Be strong for others.
6. Keep busy.
We repeat some of these unhelpful ideas because it is what others taught us, because they had never been taught how to grieve or help someone else grieve.
Monday night in Hobbs I will be teaching a two part lesson, "Good Grief". Discovering the misconceptions we have in America on dealing with grief and learning how to bring grief to a place of completion so that joy in life can resume.
We meet at 6:30 at 5512 N. Lovington Hwy, across from the hospital in the Baptist Building.
The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me,
Because He has anointed Me
To preach the gospel to the poor;
He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted …
