Bluestone is the perfect place to send you child for camp this summer!

Like many places in our state, I came to Bluestone from a small church with a small youth program. Through my experiences at camp, I was able to meet new people who shared my faith and mentored me through growing up. The community that has been built at Bluestone is truly a "family that grows," following us and supporting us throughout the seasons of our lives.

Bluestone is set apart from other camps by the level of care and love shown to each camper. I was a picky eater (and Cheryl will tell you that I still am,) but I was never made to feel bad about it, only met with a smile and a PB&J. At Bluestone, we focus on showing God's love to each child every minute of every day.

The only thing at Bluestone that shines brighter than the beautiful stars in the evening sky are our staff. We have an excellent, dedicated group of staff who love God, love kids, and love camp. Our staff are always finding new ways to make sure kids are having fun, learning, and feeling the joy they felt as campers. You will be hard pressed to find a place that has such a stellar group of young adults to care for and be role models for your children.

While faith is the center of our mission at Bluestone, the fun elements of camp provide an often much-needed escape from the distractions of daily life. Today's youth are constantly bombarded with screens and media designed to keep them scrolling. At camp, we offer kids a chance to truly be kids--to play, sing, laugh, and smile outdoors in God's beautiful creation. Campers often discover new activities to enjoy, make new friends, and find encouragement each step of the way.

Summer camp is often discussed as a nostalgic part of a bygone era, but Bluestone is still here to guide a new generation of Christian youth into adulthood. Now, more than ever, our youth need spaces to discuss their faith and positive role models to help them navigate being a Christian in the modern world.

Picture Interpretation:

This chart shows two things (1) the number of donors it took in our various categories to achieve close to $50,000 in 2025, and (2) where we really need to be in 2026 in order to achieve $60k.

Note that there were 116 unique donors (individuals and churches) across all giving levels in 2025 -- only 8 gave on a monthly basis. FoB needs the overall number of unique donors to increase. Most significantly, we need more donors giving at our “Builder” contribution level.

Why should you send your kid to camp?? That’s a great question!!!

Many places and people shape you into who you are, and for me, one of the biggest ones has been Bluestone.

Bluestone has been considered ‘home’ for me for many years and has been a place where I truly feel like I grew up. Over the years, I’ve taken on almost every role you can imagine, from camper to counselor to program staff, and everything in between. Throughout my time at Bluestone, one thing has remained true, it has always felt like one big family.

I think that is one of the most powerful reasons to send your child to camp. In a world where so many relationships feel surface-level, camp creates a space where kids are fully known and seen. We have such amazing staff who invest in your kids all week long. We listen, encourage, and walk alongside campers in a way that leaves a lasting impact. I have been fortunate to see this played out in my time as a camper and a staff member.

Bluestone is also a place where campers can truly step out of their comfort zones in the best possible way! Camp gently challenges kids to grow and try new things. As they are doing this, they are surrounded by a community that is cheering them on every step of the way.

At Bluestone, campers are removed from the distractions of everyday life, which leads them to have the opportunity to encounter God in real, personal, and tangible ways. Whether that’s through keyleader, vespers, the crazy or quiet times, camp often becomes a place where faith begins to take root in such a deeper way.

Places like Bluestone are where leadership begins to grow. Where kids learn how to care for others, how to take initiative, how to live out their faith, and how to be part of something bigger than themselves. These are not just “camp skills” but skills they will use in real life, and they are the foundation of strong, compassionate leaders.

If we want to see a future filled with people who lead with integrity, faith, and purpose, then we must keep cultivating spaces like this, and Bluestone is one of those spaces.

As someone who works in a church, I know that ministry does not always happen within the four walls of the building. We have got to keep supporting places like Bluestone, where some of the most meaningful moments of growth, connection, and transformation happen.

Sending your child to camp may not feel like a big decision, but it has the potential to make a lasting impact. I was fortunate enough to find my call to ministry during my time at Bluestone, and have been very blessed to have this family of people supporting me in all aspects of my life.

* * * TRAVEL ALERT FOR ANYONE COMING TO BLUESTONE VIA SANDSTONE, WV THIS SPRING, SUMMER, OR FALL * * *

For those whose travel routes bring them into Hinton, WV via Exit 139 off of I-64 east, be advised that exit is closed for reconstruction until October. The detour route is simply to go on to the next exit which is just 4 miles up the road. Take exit 143, make a left, and get back on to I-64 west. This will add maybe 10 minutes to your travel time. Going home from Bluestone will be as it always has been as the Sandstone exit is open from the I-64 west bound lanes.

Alternatively, you could route yourselves to camp through Shady Spring and Nimitz which will drop you down into Hinton at Rt 20 via Rt 3 about a mile from the DQ. That route is the same time-wise, but you’ll be traveling two-lane roads the whole way. Also, there is some road construction going on in the Beaver, WV area so make sure to check your options.

We're open for the season and looking forward to hosting groups of 20 or more!! Contact us if you've got a group of people looking for a place to meet for a camp or retreat and lets see if we can get you on our calendar :-)
