Why should you send your kid to camp?? That’s a great question!!!
Many places and people shape you into who you are, and for me, one of the biggest ones has been Bluestone.
Bluestone has been considered ‘home’ for me for many years and has been a place where I truly feel like I grew up. Over the years, I’ve taken on almost every role you can imagine, from camper to counselor to program staff, and everything in between. Throughout my time at Bluestone, one thing has remained true, it has always felt like one big family.
I think that is one of the most powerful reasons to send your child to camp. In a world where so many relationships feel surface-level, camp creates a space where kids are fully known and seen. We have such amazing staff who invest in your kids all week long. We listen, encourage, and walk alongside campers in a way that leaves a lasting impact. I have been fortunate to see this played out in my time as a camper and a staff member.
Bluestone is also a place where campers can truly step out of their comfort zones in the best possible way! Camp gently challenges kids to grow and try new things. As they are doing this, they are surrounded by a community that is cheering them on every step of the way.
At Bluestone, campers are removed from the distractions of everyday life, which leads them to have the opportunity to encounter God in real, personal, and tangible ways. Whether that’s through keyleader, vespers, the crazy or quiet times, camp often becomes a place where faith begins to take root in such a deeper way.
Places like Bluestone are where leadership begins to grow. Where kids learn how to care for others, how to take initiative, how to live out their faith, and how to be part of something bigger than themselves. These are not just “camp skills” but skills they will use in real life, and they are the foundation of strong, compassionate leaders.
If we want to see a future filled with people who lead with integrity, faith, and purpose, then we must keep cultivating spaces like this, and Bluestone is one of those spaces.
As someone who works in a church, I know that ministry does not always happen within the four walls of the building. We have got to keep supporting places like Bluestone, where some of the most meaningful moments of growth, connection, and transformation happen.
Sending your child to camp may not feel like a big decision, but it has the potential to make a lasting impact. I was fortunate enough to find my call to ministry during my time at Bluestone, and have been very blessed to have this family of people supporting me in all aspects of my life.
