In “A Reminder of What We Share,” Pat Uribe-Lichty names the chalice as something grounded and human. Not magic. Not mysterious. A symbol of our faith, community, and courage, and a hope we choose to practice—even in chaotic times.

When the world feels unsteady, the chalice calls us back to our commitments: to each other, to justice, to acting boldly.

Our faith calls us to build a movement beyond voter turnout. It calls us to strengthen relationships, shared leadership, and durable infrastructure that build and sustain democracy.

Please join us on Wednesday, March 25 at 8pm ET for the launch of UU the Vote 2026: Ignite Solidarity, Reimagine Democracy—an expanded program to meet this moment and the next.

Learn more about our collective commitment to strengthening democracy and mobilizing our communities for the season ahead.

The work will require clarity, discipline, and bold public witness. But the foundation is already beneath your feet. You helped build it. And we will meet this moment—as we always have—with moral grounding, strategic focus, and love powerful enough to shape public life.

Who is a woman in UU history, recent or distant, who inspires you?

For generations, women have shaped Unitarian Universalism—leading congregations, organizing for justice, teaching our children, guiding movements, and sustaining community in countless ways.

This Women’s History Month, we invite you to name one. Share their name in the comments and tell us why they inspire you!

The words of Cole Arthur Riley remind us that resistance is not only about changing systems of power. It is also about protecting the integrity of our own spirits.

For people of faith, this work is about conscience. About refusing to let cruelty, fear, or indifference reshape who we are. About choosing care, courage, and solidarity even when the outcome is uncertain.

In difficult times, resistance can be a way of keeping our humanity intact — and of helping others remember theirs.

May we hold fast to that calling, and help awaken the courage and compassion that still lives in our communities.

What does it look like to bless a movement?

In these “Community Beatitudes,” written and delivered in Minneapolis in January 2026, Rev. Ashley Horan names the many people who help build and sustain communities of courage and care.

We’re reminded that movements are not shaped by a single kind of leader. They are woven from many roles, many gifts, and many forms of courage.

Read the full “Community Beatitudes” at the link in the comments — and take a moment to appreciate the many people whose courage and care keep the work going. ✨

There is no justification for the starvation of children. Love is not silent in the face of genocide. There is no absolution for governmental or institutional complacency. We must take moral action to feed Gaza and stop the destruction of land, the poisoning of the soil, and the decimation of systems of care that support life in the region. Joining with religious voices across the globe, Unitarian Universalists again call for "the liberation of Palestine and an end to the apartheid... [We] call for an immediate permanent ceasefire, [delivery of] massive humanitarian aid, the release of all captives, and an end to genocide around the world.” (June 22, 2024 Action of Immediate Witness, “Solidarity with Palestinians”)

As a UU minister and as your President, I take the work of holding the heart of our faith, and the love that lives at its center, very seriously. In this time time when every day sees the disruption of structures we have long relied on as a nation and the intentional dehumanization of beloved members of our communities; I find myself holding fast to what I think of as the long haul promises of our theological inheritance, things like sanctuary, justice, reason, community, worthiness, and love.

I keep saying that we are a sanctuary people, and I make that claim based on decades of prophetic ministry from our congregations across the nation. I make that claim based on generations of dissent, and prioritizing our values and use of reason over the idea that a government should dictate the moral standards of religious communities.

We Unitarian Universalists are the modern expression of the dissenting church and between us, we hold our multigenerational commitment to our living tradition. Let us continue to fulfill the promise of our living tradition, together.
