Mike’s Morning Manna Heb 4:16 Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need… When you made Jesus the Lord of your life, one of the privileges you received was the right to come to the throne room of God any time you want to. Think about that! You have the right to go boldly before God and obtain whatever you need. Even though that's clearly what the Bible says, many people don't act like the believe it. They don't go boldly into the throne room. Instead, they think, I could never go in to where God is. I'll just stand out here and yell and hope He hears me. Let me explain it like this. Shortly after Joan and I were married, we went to my mother’s house. As I approached the back door and reached for the k**b she said, “Aren’t you going to knock first?” As I opened the door and walked in, I said to her, “This is my mother’s house, I can come in here whenever I want.” This is the picture I want you to have when you approach God’s throne. He loves you so much, he made a way for you to be able to come boldly before His throne whenever you need to. Jesus said, “In that day you will no longer ask me anything. Very truly I tell you, my Father will give you whatever you ask in my name. Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete” (John 16:23,24). Do you need to receive something from God today? Don't waste time standing around outside heaven's gates. Through Jesus you belong in the very throne room of God. So come right on in. The door is always open for you. “Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us” (Hebrews 10:19,20).

Mike’s Morning Manna Jonah 2:1 Then Jonah prayed to the LORD his God from inside the fish… And you think you’re having a bad day? I have had to pray from some difficult situations in some difficult times, but I’ve never had to pray from inside a fish! Jonah was thrown overboard in the middle of a storm. That was a bad day. But then God sent a custom-designed watercraft Jonah’s way. In other words, He brought in a very large fish to swallow the prodigal prophet. Now, did God do this because He hated Jonah? No. Was He angry at Jonah? Again, no. God did this because He loved Jonah and wanted to get his attention. He wanted to bring him back to Himself. Jonah knew what was right, but he was running from it. But while he was inside of this fish, he called out to the Lord. Remarkably, this happened after he was there for three days and three nights. Here’s the point. We can pray anywhere and anytime. We can pray while we’re kneeling. We can pray while we’re standing or sitting. And we can pray with our eyes open or closed. God will hear your prayer in the ocean, and He will hear your prayer when you’re pacing around, stuck at home. God will hear your prayer wherever it is. Maybe you feel like you’re wrapped up with problems right now. You can’t see any way out of your particular circumstances. Know this: Your situation isn’t hopeless. God can come into your life and change your entire story.

Mike’s Morning Manna Matthew 11:28-30 Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light… I don’t know what burden you’re carrying. I don’t know what’s weighing you down. But I do know the answer to your trouble. For many years I never understood that Scripture, because I didn’t know what a yoke was. When Jesus says, “Take my yoke upon you,” it sounded to me like he was going to give me something else to deal with. Then I learned that a yoke is actually a board with two arches in it that you put over two oxen so they can pull a cart. The value of a yoke is that it halves the load. Without a yoke, one ox has to pull an entire load by itself. But if you yoke up the ox with another ox, then the two animals pull the load together, and the load is half as heavy. When Jesus says to take his yoke upon you, he’s not saying he’s going to give you his problems. Jesus doesn’t have any problems! He’s saying he’s going to share your problems. He’s going to share your load. He’s going to take your stress on himself and bear it with you. Wow! Jesus uses three notable verbs in this Scripture: come, learn, and take. Jesus basically says, “Come to me. Team up with me. Then, learn how I do it. Take on a lighter load. This is going to reduce your stress. This is going to make life easier for you to navigate.” When you’re yoked with Christ, you move together with him. You move in the same direction and at the same speed. And you move in the right direction and at the right speed.

Mike’s Morning Manna Jn. 11: 32 When Mary reached the place where Jesus was and saw him, she fell at his feet and said, "Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died."… Have you been praying and standing on God's Word for something and haven't seen the results yet? John 11:6, "When Jesus heard that Lazarus was sick, He stayed where He was two more days." One translation says, "He sat down." Now, that was the opposite response to what Lazarus's family was looking for. "Jesus, don't sit down when we need You the most." In other words, "God, don't sit down when my finances are this low." "Don't sit down when my problems are this big." In the end, God not only healed Lazarus, but He also raised him from the dead! Your mind may be telling you it's over, it's too late, it's never going to happen. No, you've got to know there is a reason for the delay. God is planning something greater. You're thinking of a healing; He is thinking of a resurrection. You may be thinking how I can survive, but God is thinking how you can thrive. Remember, His ways are higher than your ways, and you can trust that He is going to amaze you with His goodness in every area of your life!

Mike’s Morning Manna 1 Thess. 5: 18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you… The Bible encourages us to always be thankful. That's easy when God answers prayer and delivers us from problems. But it isn't always easy when things go wrong. So how can we remain thankful during suffering? We have two choices to make. The first is to praise God despite what's going on in our lives. Or another way to say that is, during our troubles and hardships, we can rejoice over the things that are not wrong in our lives. The second choice is to ask, "God, what can I learn from this? What do You want to teach me through this so that I may be closer to You and rejoice more fully in Your goodness?" Those are not easy questions, and the answers are often hard to hear. Sometimes we can only grasp the important lessons in our lives when we go through difficult times. The parts of me that I need to have known, that I need to have touched, that I need to have fellowship, are tied up not in the successes of my life, but in the struggles of my life. For God has done more through my struggles than he's ever done through my successes. And if you look carefully at my successes, my successes are made from the ingredients of my struggles. And you can never know my successes until you understand my struggles, because my struggles are the pathway that led me to my success. Thank God that the hard times will lead you to better things. In the midst of suffering, give thanks to God and trust Him to lead you to bigger and better things. Be Thankful in the Midst of Suffering!

Mike’s Morning Manna 1 Peter 4:19 So then, those who suffer according to God’s will should commit themselves to their faithful Creator and continue to do good… Some people think that if they’re suffering, then they must be sinning. They think their suffering is a result of being outside of God’s will. But the Bible says that sometimes we suffer according to God's will. Sometimes it's God's will for you to suffer. Sometimes it's God's will for you to be sick. Sometimes it's God's will for you to have problems and be harassed for your faith. Why? Because God is more interested in your character than your comfort. He's more interested in growing you to be like Christ than he is in making your life easy. So what should you do when the bullies and harassers come at you? You should trust in your faithful God who has promised you his presence and eternity in heaven. And you should keep on doing good. You’re still going to face trouble and opposition. This is part of the Christian life! I learned a long time ago that people can laugh at you or say things about you, but they can't stop you. They have no ability to stop you from believing and doing the right thing. How you respond to others—in retaliation or in love—will always be your choice. And you can always make the right choice with the help of the Holy Spirit in you. Keep going. Remain faithful. Just keep doing the right thing. You don't need anybody else's approval to be happy. You just need to persevere in doing what is right. God sees you. He will take care of you. And he will keep his promise to be with you forever.

Mike’s Morning Manna Philippians 1:18 But what does it matter? The important thing is that in every way, whether from false motives or true, Christ is preached. And because of this I rejoice… Your joy comes from God! It’s easy to let other people control your attitude. But if you want to be truly happy, you need to remember that Jesus is the source of your joy. In Philippians 1:15-17, Paul talks about different kinds of people who are affecting his ministry while he’s a prisoner in Rome. There are some he considers comrades who encourage him in his ministry. Others are criticizing, competing with, or conspiring against his ministry. Few things steal your happiness faster than being criticized or feeling like others are working against you. Why? Because we all want to be loved. We all want approval. We all want people to like us. Yet you don’t need other people’s approval to be happy. You’re as happy as you choose to be! If others are unhappy with you, that’s their choice. If you haven’t earned someone’s approval by now, you’re probably not going to get it—and you’re going to be miserable if you try to live for the approval of everybody else. Paul says it’s a privilege to suffer when you’re doing the right thing, because that’s when you’re most like Jesus. Don’t let what other people say or do control your happiness. Your joy comes from the Lord!

Mike’s Moring Manna Acts 2 : 26 Therefore my heart rejoiced, and my tongue was glad; moreover my flesh also will rest in hope… So many people today live with stress, anxiety, pressure and worry, but that’s not God’s plan for your life. He wants you to live in peace, confidence and rest in hope. Think about that for a moment. How can you rest in hope? It’s sort of like when you’re watching the replay of your favorite ball game. You already know the outcome. You don’t have to worry about what’s happening, you just enjoy the plays. The same is true in life. When we know God’s Word, when we obey His commands, then we know the outcome for life. We know that He is always for our good. We know that He has plans to prosper us, not to harm us! This scripture tells us what to do while we are waiting to see His promises come to pass — we should let our tongue be glad. In other words, we should be speaking the victory. We should be declaring His goodness. We should be filled with His joy. When your mouth is aligned with God’s Word, when your heart rejoices, then you can rest in hope knowing that victory is on the way!

Mike’s Morning Manna Phil. 4:4-7 Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus… When we were youthful in age, most did not have a care in the world. When adulthood came, so did responsibility. With responsibility comes the mantle of worry. Once we take that on, it’s almost impossible to set it aside. After all, life never stops throwing curveballs at us: a spouse loses a job, a child is injured, a parent gets sick, you have surgery. If you look at the headlines, the future seems more uncertain every day. It’s human to grow anxious about what lies ahead. That’s why Paul gave the people of Philippi a message they needed to hear. They lived in a time of frequent disease, war, and famine, so their future was questionable and uncertain. But Paul wanted them to know that their lives were in the hands of a loving God who would give them peace. Notice that Paul didn’t say, “God will make all the bad stuff go away.” Instead, he promised believers that God would calm their fears and ease their spirits. He reminded them that they weren’t in charge, that they could safely place their worries in the hands of someone far bigger than themselves and trust that God would walk with them through whatever troubles came their way. I know a few people who have gone through terrible times, the death of a child, an unexpected divorce, a potentially fatal illness. All of them have said that even in the darkest, most difficult moments, they sensed God’s presence. Their pain and heartache didn’t go away, but they knew God was helping them stand up under it. They never lost the feeling that God was guarding their hearts. Their experiences remind us that we can ask for the peace God offers. We can thank God for caring, for giving us comfort and rest even in our most difficult times.

Mike’s Morning Manna Pro. 24:16 For though the righteous fall seven times, they rise again... Life is full of things that try to push us down. We all face disappointments and setbacks. Years ago, when I was in my early twenties, married, with one child, I walked into work one morning, just three weeks before Christmas, to be told the company I worked for was closing down. They gave me my last paycheck and sent me home. That was a setback. It would have been easy to get discouraged or lose my enthusiasm or even be tempted to just settle for being out of a job. Instead, I decided to have a “bounce back” mentality. I may have got knocked down, but I didn’t plan to stay down. I got back up again. Within a few hours, I was blessed with a new and better job and extra funds to buy food for my family. You have to know that every time adversity comes against you, it’s a setup for a comeback! As believers, the same power that raised Christ from the dead lives on the inside of us. There is no challenge too difficult, no obstacle too high, no sickness, no disappointment, no person, nothing that can keep you from your God-given destiny. If you stay in faith, God will turn what was meant to be a stumbling block into a stepping stone!
