Solomon reminds us that wealth isn't everything and that some things are more valuable than treasure. One such thing is a good name and the favor of others. Those who have a good name are kind and generous, loving their neighbors and showing compassion. So, let us strive to have a good standing amongst our neighbors. Amen and God bless.

It is with a heavy heart that I share the news of the passing of another of our beloved members. Rick Sumner was one of the good ones & he will be missed by all. Please remember Diana and the rest of Rick's family during this difficult time.

The visitation will be this Saturday from 12:00 to 2:00 pm at Hilton's Memorial UMC. The service will follow at 2:00 pm and afterward there will be a motorcade to Holston View Cemetery where there will be a graveside service.

"There is no wisdom, no understanding,
And no plan against the Lord." (Proverbs 21:30)

Today, we are reminded of the foolishness of going against God's will. I think we all remember Jonah, who ran from God's command and was pursued by a storm and swallowed by the fish. We also remember Job, who complained against God and God questioned him from the whirlwind. The point is clear: seek after God's will and make no plan against it. Amen and God bless.

"The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination,
How much more when he brings it with evil intent!" (Proverbs 21:27)

Today, we are reminded that God can't be fooled. God knows who we are and searches our hearts. He knows whether our acts of piety are genuine or not. Solomon warns us that when our actions aren't pure toward God, it's an abomination. So, let us search our own hearts and let us find purity of soul and heart. Amen and God bless.

And brings down the stronghold in which they trust." (Proverbs 21:22)

Today, we have a principle that is echoed by the likes of Socrates. This principle is that wisdom is of more value than strength. The strong may put their strength in their might, but the wise fight with their mind and find ways around their might. So, let us fight the battle of faith not just with our strength but also with our minds that we might win the reward of faith. Amen and God bless.

"It is better to live in a desert land
Than with a contentious and irritating woman." (Proverbs 21:19)

Though this proverb is from a man's perspective, I believe the wisdom applies to both men and women. Being contentious and irritating isn't pleasant for wives or husbands. Therefore, we should all strive to be more compliant and encouraging with our spouses, remembering that the Bible tells us love isn't selfish. Amen and God bless.

Will rest in the assembly of the departed spirits." (Proverbs 21:16)

Solomon reminds us of the high cost of leaving the path of wisdom. Becoming wise and following the wise way leads to a long life, but leaving the path of wisdom leads to a quicker end. If we wish to live long, fulfilling lives, then let us never depart from the way of the wise. Amen and God bless.

"The exercise of justice is joy for the righteous,
But terror to those who practice injustice." (Proverbs 21:15)

Today, God speaks to us about the exercise of justice. Being a follower of Christ is more than just spiritual; it also involves doing God's will. God desires justice to be done for everyone, the rich and the poor, the righteous and the wicked. This is a high calling and something we must always be thinking about. Amen and God bless.
