VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT: Today we’re excited to spotlight one of our amazing HHICC volunteers, Tyler Nagle. Tyler brings a willing heart, a positive attitude, and a genuine love for serving others. We’re so grateful for the time, energy, and care he pours into our community. ✨
1. What inspired you to start volunteering with St Andrew By-the Sea Soup Kitchen, Sandalwood Food Pantry & Island Kidz?
Jesus taught us to love and serve other people, especially those in need. That is what inspires me to serve at the soup kitchen and food pantry. As for Island Kidz, I started teaching Sunday school with my kids over 30 years ago. I believe all kids should learn about Jesus, and how God wants us to live with each other.
2. What do you enjoy most about your volunteer experience?
I enjoy building relationships with guests and other volunteers at the soup kitchen and food pantry. The people I’ve met have been wonderful and have made a positive impact on my life. I also enjoy getting to know the kids at Sunday school and watching them grow in their faith.
3. Can you share a memorable moment that stands out from your time here?
Every day I volunteer or teach in Island Kidz, I have memorable moments in the smiles, handshakes, hugs, and conversations with people. It is great to make people feel valued, even if is just a brief interaction.
4. What would you say to someone who is considering volunteering for the first time?
Keep your motivation for volunteering in line with the teaching of Jesus. Find a volunteer opportunity that motivates you, and be open to change. Focus on building relationships with the people you serve with and are serving.
