Did you know the Ascension of Our Lord is one of the three most important solemnities to the life of the faithful and is celebrated on two different days across the United States?
Forty days after Easter we celebrate the glorious moment when Jesus, having fulfilled His earthly mission, was taken up into Heaven and was seated at the right hand of God the Father.
"When it is not observed as a holy day of obligation, its celebration is transferred to the following Sunday... In most U.S. dioceses, the Ascension is celebrated on the Seventh Sunday of Easter" (USCCB). The celebration is transferred to the following Sunday so that more of the faithful may gather in prayer and fully participate in this beautiful holy day.
โMen of Galilee, why are you standing there looking at the sky? This Jesus who has been taken up from you into heaven will return in the same way as you have seen him going into heaven.โ (Acts 1:11)
