Some days joy feels effortless. Other days, it feels like trying to light a candle in a hurricane.
Maybe you’re carrying grief you didn’t ask for. Maybe you’re facing a season where nothing seems to go the way you planned. Maybe you’re smiling on the outside, but inside you feel empty.
The Bible doesn’t ignore this reality. In fact, it tells us that joy is not the same as happiness. Happiness is tied to our circumstances, but joy is rooted in God’s presence, promises, and faithfulness, things that do not change even when life does.
📖 James 1:2-4 says:
“Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.”
This doesn’t mean we pretend pain isn’t real. It means that even in the middle of pain, we can trust God is doing something in us and through us.
Here are a few ways to hold onto joy when it’s hard:
1️⃣ Stay Connected to God’s Word – It’s hard to remember God’s promises if we’re not reading them.
2️⃣ Worship Anyway – Joy grows when we choose to focus on who God is, not just what’s happening to us.
3️⃣ Serve Someone Else – Sometimes joy comes back when we take our eyes off ourselves and bless someone in need.
4️⃣ Be Honest in Prayer – You don’t have to fake it with God. He can handle your honesty.
Joy in hard seasons is less about a feeling and more about a foundation, and that foundation is Jesus. 🙌🏾
If you’re in a hard season, know this: you are not alone, you are deeply loved, and the God who began a good work in you will carry it to completion. 🧡
