H.H. Bhakti Raghava Swami was initiated by His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada in 1974 and later accepted the renounced order of life (sannyasa) on Gaura Purnima of 1985 in Mayapur. From 1976 to 1992, Maharaja lived in India, pioneering the New Bhakta Program and the Nama Hatta village preaching program from Sri Dham Mayapur, as well as the Bhaktivedanta Youth Services (BYS) from ISKCON Calcutta. He then transitioned to North America, where he served as the Co-GBC for ISKCON Canada from 1993 to 2000.
Alongside his spiritual leadership, Maharaj pursued an extensive academic path, holding a Bachelor's degree in Philosophy and Social Psychology, a Master's degree in Education with a thesis comparing Gurukula and modern boarding schools, and a Ph.D. in Vedic Sociology with a thesis titled Vaisnava Vedic Sociology: Its Application in the 21st Century. Currently, Maharaja focuses his energy on developing Sustainable Vaishnava Communities, Cow Protection and promoting rural Varnasrama projects globally.
