William Joseph Hicks
July 29, 1935 — February 7, 2026
Hillsborough

William Joseph Hicks ( Billy Joe, Bill), 90, of Hillsborough passed peacefully from this life into the loving arms of our Heavenly Father on Saturday, February 7, 2026. Bill was born in Orange County on July 29, 1935 to the late Sarah and Coy Hicks.

Following his graduation from Hillsboro High School in 1954 he met and married the love of his life, Faye. They were married in 1958. Together they spent 52 of the 66 years they were married raising children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He worked 38 years for White Furniture Company as a foreman for the machine room. Upon the closing of the company he went to work for Orange County School system for 6 years. Bill was a devoted member of Fairview Baptist Church. He served as a deacon, finance officer and was a frequent attendee for the Tuesday night visitation team. Bill's devotion to his church and his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ were unwavering. God and family were the most important things in his life. Bill loved Duke Athletics. Basketball was his favorite. He also enjoyed playing golf and watching The PGA Tour. Bill also enjoyed working in his vegetable garden with his wife.

Bill was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Faye Collins Hicks; parents: Coy and Sarah Hicks; siblings: Kenneth, Donald, Hazel and Dorothy; son-in-law, Pete Rhew; and first grandchild, Barbara Barker.

Bill is survived by his children: Lou Ann Rhew, Michael (Meg) Hicks and Peggy (Tony) Moon. He was the proud Poppi of 5 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Also, thank you to our daddy's personal caregiver, Temika. She was a very loyal and compassionate young woman that loved Mr. Bill, as she called him.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday, March 28, 2026 at 1:00 PM at Crosslink Church Hillsborough. (Previously Fairview Baptist Church)
