We understand that it is potentially uncomfortable to visit a group of people that you don’t yet know. Remember the first day at a new school when the teacher introduced you from the front of the classroom? So at Hilliard Christian Assembly, we don’t do things that single out newcomers like having you stand up and introduce yourself. We'd like you to slip in with a minimum of discomfort and then g

radually interact according to your readiness level. Expect friendly recognition and a helping hand if you need it. We also understand that penetrating the social circle of a group can be difficult. The habit of people bunching up into groups while excluding others happens in high schools, parties, and various social circles. But church really shouldn't be the place for cliques. Being the odd man out in the corner of a room isn't anyone's idea of a good time. So we try to keep our church life a no-clique zone. That means we receive all whom Jesus receives and include every willing, seeking heart into our community of faith.

We have to admit that oftentimes our spiritual lives tend to be self-centered rather than God-centered. Consider the last book you read, the last song you sang, or the last prayer you prayed. What was the focus? Was it about God, his glory, his kingdom, and his purposes? Or was it more focused on the role God plays in helping your life “work”? If God answered every one of your prayers, would it change the world or simply change your world?

We need to hear what God says. We need to hear his warnings about what becomes of the covetous and how serious it is to covet. And we need to hear his promises of future grace.

There’s an interesting paradox with repentance in that it’s both a time of grief and a time of joy. It’s grief—we see that in the language of Luke 15. We’ve had our face in the manure of sin. And it’s joy—we’re coming home from a far country. Sometimes when we say that it is a time of both grief and joy, people feel like that’s a contradiction. But this is where Jesus’s parable is so beautiful and so genius.

The Bible has plenty to say about anger—not just our own anger but also God’s. Anger is an important emotion for many reasons. God’s anger is important because it reveals the holiness of our God. He is a God who will not tolerate rebellion and sin. Our human anger, on the other hand, is important because it reveals so much about the desires and attitudes of our hearts. The other reason our anger is important is that it is capable of doing so much harm. Here, we offer a checklist to help us identify and appraise our own struggle with anger.

The Bible has plenty to say about anger—not just our own anger but also God’s. Anger is an important emotion for many reasons.
