✝️“CATHOLICS, HOW ON EARTH, DO YOU REALLY EXPECT ME TO BELIEVE THAT A WOMAN GAVE BIRTH TO GOD?” 😳🤔
___________________
Yes.
And if you don’t believe that, then you don’t yet believe in Christianity.
Because Christianity does not begin with a philosophy.
It begins with a scandal.
A womb.
A woman.
And God.
✝️ Let’s be clear from the start
Catholics do not believe Mary created God.
God has no beginning.
God has no origin.
God has no cause.
But Catholics do believe something far more shocking:
👉 The eternal God truly entered time.
👉 The infinite God truly took flesh.
👉 And that flesh was taken entirely from a woman.
Not symbolically.
Not metaphorically.
Not “in appearance.”
But really.
✝️ The Question That Divides True Faith from Comfortable Religion
The title Mother of God does not exalt Mary first.
It protects Christ first.
Because the real question is not: “Can a woman give birth to God?”
The real question is: Who exactly was born in Bethlehem?
If the child Mary carried was:
• only a man, Christianity collapses
• partly God, salvation fails
• a human person joined to God later, leads to heresy
But if that child was: 👉 one divine Person 👉 with a fully human nature 👉 and a fully divine nature
Then Mary did not give birth to a nature.
She gave birth to a Person.
And that Person is God.
✝️ The Church Did Not Invent This, She Defended It
In the 5th century, some Christians tried to soften the scandal.
They said: “Mary gave birth to Christ, not God.”
The Church answered with thunder at the Council of Ephesus (431):
If Mary is not the Mother of God, then the One she bore is not God.
And if Christ is not God, then the Cross is powerless, the Eucharist is empty, and salvation is a lie.
✝️ Scripture Is Not Silent
Elizabeth, filled with the Holy Spirit, cries out:
“And why is this granted me,
that the mother of my Lord should come to me?”
(Luke 1:43)
In Jewish language, “my Lord” is not politeness. It is divinity.
Paul writes:
“When the fullness of time had come,
God sent His Son, born of a woman.”
(Galatians 4:4)
Not “passing through” a woman.
Not “using” a woman.
Born of a woman.
✝️ Mary Is Not the Source of Divinity — She Is the Door of the Incarnation
She did not give God His divinity. She gave Him His humanity.
But the One she gave birth to was never a “human person.” He was, and remains, God the Son.
That is why the Church insists:
👉 Mary is Theotokos, God-Bearer.
👉 Not because she is greater than God.
👉 But because God humbled Himself to need her.
✝️ This Is Why Today Matters
January 1st is not about sentiment. It is about orthodoxy.
Deny Mary as Mother of God, and you deny who Christ is.
Accept Mary as Mother of God, and suddenly everything makes sense:
• the Incarnation
• the Eucharist
• the Cross
• salvation
✝️ So yes, believe it
Believe that God cried. Believe that God was carried. Believe that God drank milk from a woman He created.
Not because Mary is divine, but because God is humble.
And that humility is our salvation.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners.
Amen.
