It's early Monday morning. I've been sitting out on my veranda since before dawn. It's the day after people were killed in a house of worship that was burned to the ground not too far from here. My thoughts still lack a bit of coherency but there's a general theme that's coming through. Most of it comes from scripture and how it intersects with my life. Be slow to speak and quick to listen -James. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart I overcome the world. -Jesus
While it's' a good idea to manage risk and mitigate danger it's also really a secondary issue. Certainly in my prayer life it falls far down on the list. Instead of safety I pray for protection. That's my desire, for those closest to me, to be protected. It's too easy when tragedy happens halfway around the world or in another community to think somehow we're isolated, for whatever reason, from tragedy. For me the real issue is where I look for my peace, security, even joy.
What's really important to me when things are stripped away. Isn't it really the people that we love?
It's time to spend some quiet time thinking about what we have in common versus what divides us. It's time to let my last words be of peace and love and joy. Not ignoring the horrors of this world... But allowing the Spirit that lives within me to guide and direct and comfort in this world that is not my home... And also reach out to those around me that need a safe place... For you who are near and far away, I love you guys- pastor Mike
