Notes From The Pulpit:
Today's words of encouragement.
First Baptist church 3.24.24- Palm Sunday
Church is a meeting place of famiarity which elicites feelings of love and safety, family.
Home is where and with whom you get to worship.
Spiritual motivation to keep marching forward:
- Palm Sunday leads us directly to the cross.
- As believers, it marks the cornerstone of our faith (John 12:23). Jesus lived for the moment of crucifixion.(John 19:33) (Hebrews 10:12-13).
- We are here today because we believe we have eternal life.
- Because of our sin, God needed a sacrifice.
- We believe that we are redeemed by God. God sees Jesus in us, and we are no longer condemned. (Romans 8:1)
- (John 5:24) We have eternal life
The world judges everything that we do. But the judgement has alredy been made and we are saved. Which is the hallmark of our faith.
Palm Sunday:
Devotion to Christ produces contrast and that contrast is covered by Christ.
- (John 12:1-8) We see Mary of Bethany found at the feet of Jesus, in a state of devotion. (Luke 10:39)(John 11:22) (John 12:3).
- Jesus saw her devotion before his crucifixion.
- Devotion is recognized by Jesus (Luke 10:42). As desciples we need to be at Jesus's feet in devotion. Devotion is the only thing and most important thing you need because Jesus won't be taken from you.
- Your devotion is part of Gods plan for you(v12) :"therefore" demonstrates God is in control and has ordered your footsteps.
- Your devotion to God yields the very best, the outcome of your devotion is for the very best.
- At dinner banquet, everyone at Marys home was reclined relaxing, after giving her very best, in her devotion she annointed Jesus's feet and used her very best lotion. She showed great serventitude to Jesus and humility in washing Jesus's feet.
- Her devotion showed God that she wanted a deep personal relationship with him.
- "Leave her (my servant) alone" is Jesus's response when the world attacks and judges us.
- In our devotion we draw a contrast, Jesus came on on a donkey, they were looking for a horse, the palms vs a sword. We get peace from our devotion to Christ.
Amen!
