Know Who Jesus Is: The Consequences for Disobedience
• When it comes to doubting the truth and questioning the legitimacy of what God said, it is ridiculously.
• God said your Kingship Saul will be ripped from you. Saul’s reputation soured because of his disobedience. How come Saul didn’t repent? How come he didn’t change. The presence of actions is encouraged and energized by a present spirit. The spirit that influences our lives causes us to yield to certain decisions. This is why the Holy Spirit is so important and why Jesus Christ came, taught and lived on the earth to show us how not to be manipulated by evil spirits. In the presence of attacks we can make decisions about how we are going to move, allowing us to see and represent God because you are committed to Christ. Your desire is to please and be used by God and be an example. King Saul lost this. The new anointed King David with out consulting God.
• Vs 1-5 David is still in Ziklag which is Philistine country. Remember the 12 tribes have created cities. Judah always did his own thing. Shall I go up to any of the cities of Judah? God said go to Hebron. That’s at least 600 men plus families, livestock, and their things. The men of Jabesh-Gilead buried Saul. David sent messenger to the men of Jabesh-gilead, saying, May the Lord bless you because you showed kindness and loyalty to Saul your king and buried him. Jabesh-gilead was aligned with Judah. David gave honor to those who did what was right by Saul. David continue to honor the King who wanted to kill him was his first act.
• Vs 6 -God tells the men of Jabesh-gilead that I will also do right by you because of what you have done.
• Vs. 7 So now, let your hands be strengthened and be valiant, for your master Saul is dead, and the house of Judah has anointed me king over them.
• Vs. 8 Now Abner son of Ner, commander of Saul’s army, took Ish-bosheth son of Saul and brought him over to Mahanaim. He was 40 years old when he began his two year reign over Israel. But the house of Judah followed David.
• David was king in Hebron over the house of Judah for 7 years and 6 months.
• Don’t let your attitude and personality get in the way of obeying God.
• Vs. 12 Abner son of ZNer and the servants of Ish-Bo sheath son of Saul went out from Mahanaim to Gibson. Two groups of men met across the pool, Joan son of Zeruiah and the servants of David went out also and let the young men have a contest before us. 12 from Benjamin who were with Ish-boseth son of Saul and twelve of the servants of David. This is know as the Field of Sharp Knives, which is at Gibeon.
• Key point: Abner is an example of men being full of themselves. They can’t learn from the mistakes from the leaders before them. Abner is the example of not making changes after following faulty leadership. All of us have an opportunity to decide who you will follow.. the proven Jesus or stand blank, and deceived by satan. The pleasures of sin are fake and phony. Anyone who take pleasure in having so much fun tonight but when you wake up in the morning it takes a whole week to recover from the pain, vomiting, forgetting the traumatic things that have happened. Somebody is lying! How can demoralizing activity be fun. Somebody is lying. In Jesus, you know the joy. You know the pleasure and the fun of living in Jesus.
• Now a battle ensues tribe of Israel vs Judah. Asahel pursued Abner who was quick on his feet like a wild roe or antelope. Abner kills Asahel. Joel and Abishai pursued Abner.
• Vs. 26 Shall the sword devour forever? Do you know that bitternesss will be the result? How long will it be then before you bid the people to stop pursuing their brethren? Joab blew the trumpet and the people stood still.
• Vs. 31 19 of David’s men died. And 360 men of Abner died.
• This is an example of how important professed servants of Jesus Christ how we have to constantly renew a right spirit in him. We must constantly re-evaluate our spiritual life. The evil spirits are always operating to bring persecution in our lives. We can still have the victory we if we stand fast.
• Get permission from the Lord before making a move. The consequences of disobedience cause hundreds of thousands of lives to be lost during his reign and after his death.
• Remain focused on The Lord Jesus Christ!!
• Learn from David and ask, “Lord, what shall I do? Lord, Shall I go? Lord, what shall I make of this?” We don’t have to be victims of disobedience. Submit to God and live!
