PACT Act event March 4th ... The Veterans Administration presentation was a great success for 75 people in our community who learned about the expansion of benefits for both veterans and surviving spouses / children. Julie Patton, our presenter, provided an overview of the legislation which can be found at < VA.gov/PACT > A significant number of participants took advantage of the opportunity to speak directly with one of the claims officers to file initial claims or follow-up on previous submissions. Refreshments for those in attendance were provided by Southern Foods of Greensboro. Two local TV stations highlighted the event in their newscasts.

Veterans who would like to speak with someone from the Winston-Salem VA Regional office can visit Monday through Thursday from 8am to 4pm, and Fridays 9am to 4pm. No appointment is necessary. Veterans and dependents can also schedule a phone call from a Winston-Salem representative to assist with claim questions by logging on at VERA - Home (force.com)

The PACT Act is a new law that expands VA health care and benefits for Veterans exposed to burn pits, Agent Orange, and other toxic substances. The PACT Act adds to the list of health conditions that we assume (or “presume”) are caused by exposure to these substances. This law helps us provide g...

To ensure the safety and well-being of each other and our families, and reduce risk of exposure to the Coronavirus, Trellis Supportive Care is canceling the remaining Veteran Coffee events we host at least through October. Thank you for understanding our decision. As we monitor this ever-changing situation, we will make a decision about our upcoming Veteran Coffees and other events. We will share more information as decisions are made.

ADVANCE DIRECTIVES: Living Will and Healthcare Power of Attorney
Many of you know, part of my job/mission is to help people get their Advance Directives in place.
• The “Living Will” allows you to state your health care wishes if for some reason you would not be able to communicate them.
• The “Healthcare Power of Attorney” lets you appoint someone to rely your healthcare wishes if you are not able to communicate them.
Prior to the COVID-19 restrictions, I held 4 Advance Directives workshops per month in central NC, and have had several just for Veterans. Trellis Supportive Care is now working on remote VIRTUAL workshops for Veterans and their families. More to come soon.
In the meantime, If you are at a Veterans Affairs health facility, contact a Social Worker and they should be able to help you complete these important documents.

Our ability to celebrate the freedoms we have as Americans this 4th of July are due to the men and women who put Duty, Honor, and Country ahead of themselves throughout our history ... and continue to do so today.

Thank You for your and your family's service as members of our nation's military, as Veterans, and as family members keeping home-fires burning.

May we continue to build upon the legacy we have received.

Happy Fourth of July ...

Enhancing the wellbeing of our military, veterans, and their families ...
with companionship, pastoral and spiritual care in our local communities

Please remember the Mil / Vets / Family members who die by su***de today, and those who love them ...
