If you go to the end of Tyler Dewar Lane in Fuquay-Varina, NC, you'll find this view of the Cape Fear River. Come see it with us when we head to The Agape Ministry Center for our Fall Retreat! We'll stay overnight on Friday and come home on Saturday evening after dinner.

The retreat is part of the Alpha program, but it's not limited to people who attend our Wednesday evening Alpha meetings. Anyone who wants to experience a relaxing fall weekend with discussions on the Holy Spirit is welcome. We'll also share free time to enjoy the outdoors, and time for reflection and connection.

Reserve your spot tomorrow at Alpha (6 pm in the Community Life Center) or drop off your registration form with $50 deposit on an upcoming Sunday. The per person cost is $120 which covers 1 night's stay and all meals from dinner on Friday through dinner on Saturday. Let Fr. Rob know if you have any questions, or send us a message!

Our church offices are closed today for the Labor Day holiday.

The Collect:
Almighty God, you have so linked our lives one with another that all we do affects, for good or ill, all other lives: So guide us in the work we do, that we may do it not for self alone, but for the common good; and, as we seek a proper return for our own labor, make us mindful of the rightful aspirations of other workers, and arouse our concern for those who are out of work; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Even Sundays at church can be hectic as we rush between responsibilities. Starting next Sunday, September 13, we invite everyone to spend a slower, quieter hour in Shalom Space.

Shalom Space is a new weekly gathering for all ages. It’s a time to hear a Bible story, to make something with your hands, and to simply rest in God’s presence. Shalom translates to peace, but it also means means wholeness and completeness. Make a change of pace, and plan stop by the Godly Play Hall between 10 and 11 am on Sundays.

Charles, pictured here playing the organ on a Sunday morning, shared his "Why St. Mary's" story earlier this week: "St. Marians are warm, caring people, the kind that welcome you when you’re a stranger, support you when you’re near defeat, and celebrate life’s moments when your heart is full. We help the poor and afflicted. We do good in the community in a multitude of ways, modest and grand, that make a difference."

Read the rest of what he shared in this past Wednesday's email, and consider your own "Why St. Mary's" story as our Celebration Sunday, September 27, approaches. We'll gather that morning for one worship service at 10 am in the Great Hall of the Community Life Center. Feel free to wear comfortable clothes since we'll be walking down the block to Brantley Circle after worship for the Parish Picnic.

We're blessed to have community leaders join us for our Episcopal Church Women's luncheons! Our next ECW General Meeting begins at 12 pm on Tuesday, September 15. Join us in the Parish Hall as we hear from Antoine Dalton, director of social services at our local Salvation Army chapter.

Antoine will tell us more about the Center of Hope Family Shelter, which is the only shelter in town that accepts families with children. Other topics will be The Salvation Army's food pantry and housing payment assistance program.

One week from tonight, Godly Play returns from summer break! Children and families can join us from 3:30 to 5 pm in the children's wing of Main Building. Later that evening, we'll host a Godly Play open house, from 5 to 6:30 pm, for anyone who wants to learn more about this program.

Tomorrow's Healing Eucharist at noon in the Chapel of Christ the King remembers The Martyrs of New Guinea. Lucian Tapiedi was among 333 Christians who lost their lives in New Guinea during the occupation of the island by Japanese forces in 1942. This sculpture of him is one of ten 20th-century martyrs whose statues rise above the Great West Door of Westminster Abbey.

The Collect:
Almighty God, we remember before you this day the blessed martyrs of New Guinea, who, following the example of their Savior, laid down their lives for their friends, and we pray that we who honor their memory may imitate their loyalty and faith; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Every detail, big and small, is carefully crafted as our new antiphonal organ addition is coming together in Goulding & Wood's shop in Indianapolis. We're looking forward to the spring of 2027 when we expect the sounds of organ to once again fill the Nave.

Alpha returns Wednesday! Let us know you'll be there. Use the RSVP form in Friday's newsletter, or send us a message. We want to make sure we have enough food for everyone; this week's menu features New Orleans red beans and rice with chicken and sausage. Everyone is welcome to join us!

Find us on Wednesday nights in the Community Life Center through November 11. Dinner starts at 6, and we'll wrap up our discussions around 7:45. No judgement, no pressure, just conversations about our faith and the deeper meaning behind the words so many of us are familiar with. See you there!
