On this Labor Day, we thought we’d offer some fact-checking from 2025 data.

“Myth: People experiencing homelessness just need to get a job.

Fact: While employment helps people stay housed, it does not guarantee housing. As many as 40%-60% of people experiencing homelessness have a job, but housing is unaffordable because wages have not kept up with rising rents. There is no county or state where a full-time minimum-wage worker can afford a modest apartment. At minimum wage, people have to work 86 hours a week to afford a one-bedroom. Even when people can afford a home, one is not always available.”

We loved being with Greenstreetstudents tonight and greatly appreciate their partnership. The students will be packing bags for us once a month to distribute at the library during cafe days.

Free ESL Classes! Register August 19th at Green Street Baptist 303 N Rotary Dr High Point

“ESL has helped me feel more confident in talking to family, friends and others about Jesus.”

Our ESL Ministry has two news items!
👉First, we will hold registration on August 19 at 6pm in room B-201 for free ESL classes. Use Entrance A/Church Office Entrance and spread the word.

👉Second, we’d love to recruit new teachers. We have an amazing leader who’ll teach you to teach others. ESL Ministry is a relational one where we hope to grow in fellowship too!

Thinking of our unhoused friends. Offering water, Gatorade and snacks is helpful. What kind of snacks? Nabs (peanut butter crackers) and chewy protein bars are good as they have some protein.

🚨 EXTREME HEAT ALERT 🚨

High temperatures and dangerous heat are expected to move into our area beginning Thursday and continuing through the July 4th holiday weekend.

Forecast highs are expected to reach the upper 90s to near 100°F by Friday and remain dangerously hot through the weekend. Heat impacts are expected to range from MAJOR to EXTREME, increasing the risk of heat-related illnesses for anyone spending extended time outdoors without proper hydration or cooling.

⚠️ Please plan ahead for the heat:
💧 Drink plenty of water throughout the day—even if you don’t feel thirsty.
🏠 Stay indoors or in air-conditioned spaces during the hottest part of the day whenever possible.
👵 Check on elderly family members, neighbors, young children, and others who may be more vulnerable to extreme heat.
🐶 Don’t forget your pets—provide fresh water and shade, and never leave children or animals in a parked vehicle.
🌙 Overnight temperatures will remain warm, providing little relief from the heat.

If you’re spending time outdoors for work, recreation, or holiday celebrations, take frequent breaks, wear lightweight clothing, and know the signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

As you prepare for the week and holiday weekend, please consider the extreme heat when planning activities and be mindful of these conditions during any emergency situations.

Stay safe, stay hydrated, and have a safe Independence Day weekend!
