Why **Williams Cathedral CME Church**?

The name **Williams** continues to honor the legacy of **Rev. W. N. Williams**, whose leadership helped shape this congregation and whose name has been part of our church identity for more than 50 years.

The transition to **Cathedral** also recognizes the extraordinary growth and impact of the ministry under **Rev. Robert J. Williams, Jr.** and reflects the responsibility, reach, and vision God has entrusted to this church.

This is more than a new name.

It is a continuation of the legacy—and a step into the future.

**POST 3 — THE LEGACY CONTINUES**

This past Sunday, we honored **Rev. W. N. Williams** and reflected on the lasting impact of his leadership on this congregation.

His legacy became so deeply connected to the life of the church that in 1970, St. Matthews CME Church was renamed **Williams Memorial CME Church** in his memory and honor.

For more than 50 years, the Williams name has carried that legacy forward.

And as we continue **The Evolution of Williams**, we are reminded that moving forward does not mean leaving our history behind. It means carrying the faith, sacrifice, and vision of those who came before us into the next chapter.

This past Sunday, we reflected on the faith and vision that marked the leadership of Rev. W. N. Williams.

At a time when resources were limited, the members of the congregation gave what they had and trusted God to provide. Under Rev. Williams’ leadership, a church fellowship hall was constructed on the Leonard Street property—a tangible sign of the faith, commitment, and vision of the congregation.

That story still speaks to us today.

Faith built it. Sacrifice sustained it. Vision moved it forward.

As we celebrate 100 years of ministry, we honor the generations who trusted God enough to build for a future they could not yet see.

This past Sunday, as part of The Evolution of Williams, we honored the life and legacy of Rev. W. N. Williams.

His leadership helped guide the congregation through an important season of growth, and the faith and commitment of that generation helped lay a foundation that still shapes Williams today.

In 1970, the church was renamed Williams Memorial CME Church in his memory and honor.

For more than 50 years, the Williams name has carried his legacy forward.

As we celebrate 100 years, we remember: evolution does not mean forgetting where we came from. It means building upon the foundation that has already been laid.
