인생의 목적을 분명히 알라 (행 20:17-24)
Know the Purpose of Your Life (Acts 20:17-24)
이방 선교를 마치고 예루살렘으로 들어가기 전 사도 바울은 에베소 교회를 돌아보기 위해 잠시 그곳에 머물러 있었습니다. 그런데 성령께서는 예루살렘에 들어가면 온갖 박해와 결박이 있을 것임을 알려주셨습니다. 제자들은 바울의 예루살렘 행을 극구 만류했습니다. 그러나 바울은 그것을 조금도 두려워하지 않았고, 믿음의 형제들에게 오히려 이렇게 말합니다. "내가 달려갈 길과 주 예수께 받은 사명, 곧 하나님의 은혜의 복음을 증언하는 일을 마치려 함에는 나의 생명조차 조금도 귀한 것으로 여기지 아니하노라" (행20:24). 그는 삶의 목적이 분명했습니다. 복음으로 영혼을 살리는 사명을 감당하는 일을 자기 생명보다도 귀하게 여겼던 것입니다.
Before entering Jerusalem after finishing his mission to the Gentiles, the Apostle Paul stayed briefly to visit the Ephesian church. However, the Holy Spirit had revealed to him that he would face persecution and imprisonment in Jerusalem. The disciples urged Paul not to go, but he was not afraid and said to the brothers in faith, "However, I consider my life worth nothing to me; my only aim is to finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me–the task of testifying to the good news of God’s grace" (Acts 20:24). Paul was clear about the purpose of his life. He valued fulfilling the mission of saving souls through the gospel more than his own life.
많은 사람들이 목적 없이 세상 풍속을 쫓아 살아가고 있습니다. 자기의 정체도, 존재 이유도 모른 채 말입니다. 그저 잘 먹고 잘 살기 위해 평생을 일하느라 애쓰고 수고하다가 생을 마감합니다. 동물은 먹이를 찾아 헤매는 일을 하며 살아갑니다. 먹고 배부르면 잠을 자다가, 배가 고프면 또 먹이를 찾는 일, 그리고 짝짓기를 하여 종족을 번식시키는 일을 반복하며 살다가 죽습니다. 동물은 죽으므로 모든 것이 끝납니다. 그러나 인간은 하나님의 형상, 즉 영혼이 들어있기 때문에 한 번 죽는 것으로 끝나는 것이 아닙니다. 육신의 죽음은 곧 새로운 영적 삶의 시작입니다. 이것이 동물과 다른 점입니다. 그런데 문제는 누구나 이 땅에서 어떻게 살았느냐?에 대한 결산을 해야 한다는 것입니다. 성경은 이를 심판이라고 말합니다. “한 번 죽는 것은 사람에게 정해진 것이요, 그 후에는 심판이 있으리니" (히9:27). 땅에서 믿음으로 살았는지, 불신앙으로 살았는지? 하나님을 예배하며 말씀 따라 살았는지, 재물만 숭배 하며 욕심 따라 살았는지? 교회를 다녔어도 알곡성도로 살았는지, 쭉정이로 살았는지? 하나님의 행위 책에 기록된 내용을 근거로 심판을 받아야 합니다. 그때 의인들은 "내 아버지께 복을 받을 자들이여! 창세로부터 너희를 위해 예비된 나라를 상속 받으라” (마25:34)는 주님 말씀에 환호하며 영생복락으로 들어가겠지만, 죄인들은 “저주를 받은 자들아! 나를 떠나 마귀와 그의 사자들을 위하여 예비된 영원한 불에 들어가라" (마25:41)는 선고와 함께 불못에 던져질 것입니다.
Many people live their lives chasing after worldly trends without any clear purpose. They don’t know who they are or why they exist. They work hard their whole lives just to live comfortably and then die. Animals spend their lives searching for food, resting when full, and continuing this cycle until they die. But when animals die, that is the end for them. Humans, however, bear God's image and have a soul, so their death is not the end. Physical death marks the beginning of a new spiritual life. This is what differentiates humans from animals. The real issue is that every person will be held accountable for how they lived on earth. The Bible calls this judgment: "Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment" (Hebrews 9:27). Did you live by faith or in unbelief? Did you worship God and live according to His Word, or did you only pursue wealth and follow your desires? Did you live as fruitful believers, or were you empty shells just attending church? Everyone will be judged based on what is written in God's record of deeds. At that time, the righteous will hear, "Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world" (Matthew 25:34) and enter eternal joy. But sinners will hear, "Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels" (Matthew 25:41) and be thrown into the lake of fire.
하나님께서 왜 당신을 모태에서 조직하셔서 세상에 보내시고, 죄와 사망 가운데서 속량하셨을까요? 당신을 통해 영광 받기를 원하시기 때문입니다 (사43:7). 하나님의 영광을 위해 살아야 하는 것이 당신 인생의 목적입니다. 성도는 각자의 분야에서 최선을 다해 하나님의 영광을 나타내며 살아야 합니다. 박해시대에 수많은 성도들이 하나님의 영광을 위해 순교를 택했으며, 지금도 많은 성도들이 주의 영광을 위해 헌신하고 있습니다. 그러면 어떻게 하나님의 영광을 위해 살 수 있을까요? 받은 은사에 따라 직분 감당하며 헌신하며 사십시오. 지금 있는 자리에서 하나님의 영광을 드러내십시오. 아브라합과 이삭과 야곱은 목축업을 하던 사람들로 하나님과 동행하는 삶을 살았습니다. 요셉은 한 나라의 행정 수반으로 국사를 돌보면서 하나님의 영광을 위해 살았고, 모세는 출애굽의 인도자로, 다윗은 신정국가 이스라엘의 왕으로, 에스더는 왕비로 살면서 하나님의 영광을 드러냈습니다. 베드로는 사도로, 바울은 선교사로 이방에 교회를 세우는 사명을 감당하며 하나님께 영광 돌렸으며, 루디아는 자기 재물로, 오네시모는 바올의 옥바라지로 하나님께 영광 돌렸습니다. 당신은 어떤 사명을 감당하며, 무엇으로 하나님께 영광을 돌리며 살고 있습니까?
Why did God form you in your mother’s womb and send you into the world? Why did He redeem you from sin and death? It’s because He wants to be glorified through you (Isaiah 43:7). Living for God’s glory is the purpose of your life. Believers should do their best in their respective fields, living in ways that reveal God’s glory. Many believers chose martyrdom for God’s glory during times of persecution and even today, many are dedicated to the Lord’s glory. So how can you live for God’s glory? Use your gifts to fulfill your role and dedicate yourself to His service. Show God’s glory wherever you are. Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob lived as shepherds while walking with God. Joseph served as a chief administrator of a nation and lived for God's glory. Moses, as the leader of the Exodus, David, as the king of Israel, and Esther, as queen, all revealed God's glory. Peter, as an apostle, and Paul, as a missionary establishing churches among the Gentiles, glorified God. Lydia gave glory to God through her wealth, and Onesimus served Paul in prison. How are you fulfilling your mission and giving glory to God?
하나님은 교회의 지체들에게 각양 귀한 은사를 주십니다. 말씀을 잘 전하는 예언의 은사, 가르침의 은사, 권위의 은사를 받은 사람이 있습니다. 교인들을 돌보고 보살피는 섬김의 은사를 받은 사람도 있고, 남의 필요를 채워주는 구제의 은사, 조직을 잘 관리하는 은사, 슬픔을 당한 형제를 찾아가 슬픔과 고통을 함께 나누는 긍휼을 베푸는 은사 (롬12:6-8)... 그리고 기도의 은사, 찬양의 은사를 받은 사람도 있고 최고의 은사인 사랑의 은사를 받은 사람도 있습니다. 은사는 사람이 수고하고 노력해서 얻는 것이 아니라 하나님이 주셔야 받는 것입니다. 당신의 은사는 무엇입니까? 그 은사를 마음껏 발휘하여 열매 맺는 삶을 사십시오. 또한 받은 은사를 유기하지 말고 최선을 다해 사용하며 헌신하십시오. 이 땅에서 하나님께 영광 돌리며 사는 방법입니다. “아버지께서 내게 하라고 주신 일을 내가 이루어 이 세상에서 아버지께 영광을 돌렸사오니” (요17:4) 깨닫는 자가 복이 있습니다.
God gives various precious gifts to the members of the church. Some have the gift of prophecy, teaching, or leadership. Others have the gift of nurturing and caring for others, some with a gift of fulfilling others' needs, and some with a gift for administration. Some have a gift of sharing the burdens of those in sorrow, showing mercy (Romans 12:6-8). Some are gifted in prayer, some in praise, and some with the greatest gift—which is love. Gifts are not earned through effort or labor; they are given by God. What is your gift? Use it fully and live a fruitful life. Do not neglect the gift you have received; instead, use it to the fullest and dedicate yourself to God's work. This is how to live for God's glory on earth. "I have brought you glory on earth by finishing the work you gave me to do" (John 17:4). Blessed are those who understand this.
