Hickory Withe Presbyterian Church - PCA Founded in 1834, Hickory Withe Presbyterian Church is an historic congregation in west Fayette County, Tennessee.

What We Believe:

That the Gospel is the "good news of the Kingdom of God" given to all people by God for us to know and believe Him...
The Gospel teaches us that we are more sinful than we ever dared to believe or admit; the good news is that, through Jesus Christ's life, death, resurrection and eternal intercession on our behalf, we are more loved, more accepted, more forgiven than we ever dared hope or dream. Though, in our sin, we were enemies of God, through Jesus Christ, His Son, we are reconciled to Him, adopted as His sons and daughters, and granted eternal security by His grace through our faith in Him. That the church is a people who God has called His own and who He has given to each other for love and community...
The Bible describes the church as people who belong to God and to each other, gathered together by belief in Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord and, by their mutual reconciliation to God through the Gospel. The church is not simply a building or meeting place, nor is it merely a place of religious observation, but a living and growing community of men, women and children whose identity is shaped by love through our belonging to God and to each other. That our reconciliation to God through the Gospel compels us to live transformed lives...
The truth of the Gospel re-creates us into a people whose lives are transformed by a commitment and passion for God and His glory. God has uniquely called and equipped His church to display and demonstrate the power of the Gospel to transform individuals and communities. Just as the Gospel is the "good news of the Kingdom of God", the church is a foretaste of the Kingdom of God on earth, struggling, learning and growing together in an understanding of what it means to follow Christ with the whole of our lives. We are a Presbyterian and Reformed congregation and hold firmly to the system of beliefs and doctrine found in the Westminster Confession of Faith and the Westminster Catechisms.

Pastor Doug’s announcements for the week of October 26, 2026:

Reminder –Clocks move back one hour on Sunday, November 1, 2026, to
give us another hour of sleep.

Hayride at the Mitchell’s farm – Jane and Jim Mitchell will host their annual hayride and hotdog roast this Sunday, November 1, 2026, starting at 4:00 p.m. at their home located at 160 Harrell Drive. Church officers are requested to help with set up and clean up. Church will furnish the hot dogs and buns. Guests can coordinate with Jane a side dish to go with the meal. Don’t miss this great time of fellowship and fun.

Sunday School classes are held every Sunday for all ages at 10 AM. In Adult Sunday School on November 1, 2026, Pastor Doug will teach Session #4 – The Meaning of the Law, from The Sermon on the Mount by Sinclair Ferguson.

Worship Service Sermon - The sermon on Sunday, November 1, 2026, will be Revelation 18:1-24 - Voices from Heaven; Voices from the Earth.

Women’s prayer time - Women meet each Sunday at 9:15 a.m. to pray for HWPC and our communities.

Nursery coverage - Nursery is provided every Sunday for children under the age of five. Volunteers are to arrive at 10:45 a.m. to allow the Sunday school teachers time to transition to worship.

Men’s Bible Study - The men will not meet on Sunday, November 1, 2026, at 4 p.m.

Women’s Bible Study – The women will not meet on Sunday, November 1, 2026, at 4 p.m.

Wednesday Night Bible study – Wednesday Night Bible studies will meet Wednesday, October 28, 2026. Dinner will be served at 6:15 p.m. with prayers and Bible study at 7:00 p.m. Pastor Doug will continue our study in the book of Micah.

Men’s prayer breakfast will be Saturday, November 7th at 7 a.m. in the fellowship hall.

Fayette Cares: Let’s remember our neighbors in need by donating to Fayette Cares. Please bring food items to the fellowship hall and we will make sure that they are taken to Fayette Cares.

Prayer requests - Please submit any prayer requests you might have to Nancy Cardamone or Pastor Doug.

Schedule for the holidays:
• Advent Service – Sunday, November 29, 2026, at 6 p.m. Sanctuary is decorated the Saturday after Thanksgiving for Christmas.
• Officer Christmas Dinner at Barcroft home - Friday, December 4th. Time will be announced later.
• Dirty Santa dinner/party - Sunday, December 13, 2026 at 5 p.m. – No carry in luncheon that day.
• Christmas Eve Candlelight service -Thursday, December 24th at 5:00 p.m.

The sermon on Sunday, November 1, 2026, will be from Revelation 18:1-24 - Voices from Heaven; Voices from the Earth.

“Fallen, fallen is Babylon the great!” Revelation 18:2

In the Revelation of Jesus Christ to John, he often uses powerful images and metaphors taken from the Old Testament. Someone has quipped, “Read your Old Testament multiple times before you even try to read Revelation.” We see this in our verse. The nation Babylon was one of Israel’s fiercest enemies, but in Revelation, the mention of Babylon is symbolic. She represents the fallen world system that surrounds and oppresses the church (1 John 2:15-17). As you see, Christ will conquer her at the end of time. Wake up if you are following the “ways of this world” – “Fallen, fallen is Babylon the great!”

Christians are free from the dominion of sin (Romans 6:14), and yet, sin remains in the life of the believer. The Apostle Peter reminds us of this – “Beloved, I urge you as sojourners and exiles to abstain from the passions of the flesh which wage war against your soul.”(1 Peter 2:11) So, if you’re a believer, don’t be surprised at the war within your soul. It is proof that the Spirit of God dwells within you and that he is creating in you a sensitivity to remaining sin.

HWPC announcements for the week of October 19, 2026:

Reminder for this Wednesday Night Bible study –Please join us on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, at 6:15 p.m. for a special time of fellowship, dinner, and Bible study as we welcome Pastor Doug back from his sabbatical!

Session will meet Tuesday, October 27th, at 6:30 p.m.

Sunday School classes are held every Sunday for all ages at 10 AM. In Adult Sunday School on October 25, 2026, Joe Johnson will teach Session #3 – The Fulfillment of the Law, from The Sermon on the Mount by Sinclair Ferguson.

Women’s prayer time - Women meet each Sunday at 9:15 a.m. to pray for HWPC and our communities. Location varies, but typically the ladies meet in the school classroom in the fellowship hall.
