Being Steadfast

Paul’s letter to the people at Corinth was an exhortation to remain steadfast. The church in Corinth was an undisciplined and dysfunctional church, and he was letting them know that even though the culture around them was in chaos because of their wild and unrestrained life, their faith in Jesus Christ needed to remain focused, bold, steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord confident that our labor is not in vain 1 Corinthians 15:58. How can we remain steadfast in our faith and avoid the pressures of this ever-changing world? By devoting time each day in prayer and to the study of God’s Word.

As we read His Word and immerse ourselves in God’s truth and character, our lives are changed, our priorities and interests are changed and we become more the child of God. His Word is a powerful litmus test for our souls and behavior. As our lives center on God, giving priority to hearing from Him and reading His Word, we become bolder in sharing our faith.

Joshua had the confidence and courage to lead God’s people into the Promised Land because He believed in God’s promises and presence. Today the God that we know and serve has not changed and He is still the same God who said: “And the Lord, He is the One who goes before you. He will be with you, He will not leave you nor forsake you; do not fear nor be dismayed/discouraged” Deuteronomy 31:8.

We can place our steadfast trust in Him and faith to receive all He has already promised. It is His will for His children to be healed, made whole, stress free and to live in peace, joy, abundance and happiness. When we find a Christian meditating on the words of God, brothers and sisters, that child of God is full of boldness and is successful.

2019 February Newsletter
January has been an emotional month for our Church. There are many questions; there are many tears; grief, loneliness, emptiness, and uncertainties loom in the homes of the five families we dearly love. Our church demonstrated what we have been taught, equipped in the Word and challenged from the Pulpit in every service to push – praying, interceding, loving, keeping our focus in Him for answers, giving of our time and reaching out to each family. NMZ prayed and encouraged Pastor Raburne, Sister Lynn and the staff as they expeditiously, diligently, vigorously, passionately, and lovingly reached out to the needs from these losses. The Lord through each one helped – visitations, planning the services, ministering in music, breaking the Word, preparing, serving and delivering meals for the families. God’s presence in each of the service was present; through you; our Lord Jesus was loving, comforting, encouraging, consoling and giving strength to the families, to the workers, our church members. Once again NMZ, in unity and collectively, stepped up to the challenges that were before us. We did not break, we did not bend, and we are stronger. We were in the mountain top right after our 21 days fast and church revival, we were in the valley after the news of the losses started coming but we depended on Him, we trusted Him and He showed us what He could do. He did what He promised – I will never leave you; I will be with you! He showed up!

We regret that we had to cancel our YAH Communion Service on January 26th. God had a different purpose for that weekend; God had a plan. HIS WILL WAS ACCOMPLISHED!

Like most of you, every New Year I prepared a list of new resolutions with the goal for a good year. In 2018 I had a different kind of goals using scriptures to achieve my resolutions. I am using the same goals this year. I thought I would share them with you. Let the Lord speak to your heart.

Goal #1 Ps139:
23-24 To reflect on the past year and ask God to show areas of sin and weakness that might have hindered my spiritual growth and receipt of His blessings. Search me O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life.
Goal #2
Col 3:23-24 To make godly resolutions and I pray that these goals will help me to stay on the right road throughout the year. To be a woman after God’s heart. Whatever I do, I will work at it with all of my heart, as workings for the Lord, not for human masters, since I know that I will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord God I am serving; He blesses all that I do in His name.
Goal #3
2 Cor 6:18
Micah 6:8 Lest I forget, to remind myself regularly that I belong to God and He is in charge in my life. I will be a Father to you; and you are my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty. My Father will tell me what is good, to do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with God.
Goal #4 Jer.29:11 To ask God for a new and fresh vision for our ministry at NMZ for 2019. I know the plans I have for you says the Lord; they are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.
Goal #5
Rom 12:2 To see my life from His perspective, and renew my commitment to His will and purpose for my life with Dermott in 2019. Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into the new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good, and pleasing and perfect.
Goal #6 Heb.4:16 To journal the things that God will reveal as I read, study and pray each day. I will review them frequently remembering that it is only by His grace and strength that I am able to grow/mature in my relationship with Him. Let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will obtain His mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.

Greetings from Lynn and Raburne Wilson
It was a great 2018. We closed the year with a loud bang; we had the merriest and largest crowd for our Christmas Party at the Dillard House. The Christmas decorations, the elegant buffet, the anointed speakers, the music and service from Dillard House were outstanding; truly over the top. So happy to see all of you there.

Thank you for supporting our monthly events; it was fun because you were there. The Young at Heart is our ministry together so I need for you to put on your thinking caps and if there is anything special you wish to do or host one of our monthly events this year, call Victoria. The proposed schedule below is not set in stone, you will approve a coming event during the current one you are attending. We are providing the dates four weeks at a time so you can mark them appropriately in your calendars.

Looking forward to see you on January 26th at the church for our Crockpot Night.

A Gold Nugget - by Victoria Tracey
The last ten weeks had been an emotional and physical struggle seeing my husband suffer with upper respiratory problems. Coupled with the busyness of the season and preparing our home for Christmas, I had to make a determined and focused effort to encourage myself in the Lord through His word each day to keep order in our home and to keep a positive and healthy attitude.

Fear, loneliness, and oppression kept knocking on the doors of my heart. These feelings were trying to control me but each morning I was reminded through my readings that He will keep me in perfect peace. One morning, I had to look in the mirror to preach to myself and ask why you are cast down Victoria. I had to give myself a sermon. I had to remind myself to hope and trust only in God. I had to quote His Word, recall His sufferings at the cross, recall His promises, humble myself and allow His love to comfort and to sustain me. I had to put on my spiritual armor and went head to head, toe to toe with the author of my unsolicited feelings and addressed him to get out of my house, get out of my husband’s body and mine and that he is not allowed to steal anymore what belongs to me; to us. He wants to steal kill and destroy my witness of His Love and Faithfulness. He wants to disprove His Word but the Spirit of God keeps reminding me to continue to remain steadfast believing in His word by faith until the manifestation of the answers to my prayers are received. Job didn’t linger in depression. He worked through his circumstances, and what happened? The Lord showed up and revived Job’s spirit. We all know his life had a very happy ending, right? We are never meant to be carried away by our feelings; help is always available if we look for it. Is your backpack too heavy? Do you need rest? Are you weary? We will not find what we need until we come and lay our burdens down at His dear pierced feet! Our toys, busyness and overbooked schedules limit us from knowing God’s will and receiving His great promises for the day.

At our church, we are so blessed that we have each other for encouragement, prayers and fellowship. We do indeed have a great NMZ family. Thank God for this!

Thank you for praying for Dermott. He surprised me during the last day of the year by helping me clean house after being so sick. He knew it would make me happy to enter the New Year with a clean house; just another Filipino tradition once upon a time in my mother’s house.

Have a blessed safe and bountiful 2019.

A Gold Nugget on Proverbs - by Victoria Tracey

I have been reading Proverbs for over 20 years; it has brought me tremendous insight in life. Every chapter, one for each day of the month contains God’s rules for living to achieve high marks in life. It is packed with advice for working hard, eating and drinking wisely, keeping our temper and guarding our tongue, avoiding unhealthy friendships and immoral living, handling money well, and making good decisions in matters great and small. Proverbs 1:4-5 say “it provides subtlety (a good sense) to the simple, discretion, wisdom and understanding to keep us, His children, from being deceived.”

The wisdom that Solomon offers throughout Proverbs was given to him from God. They are godly principles that would bring happiness to our lives if we would live by them. They would bring joy, contentment, comfort, financial flexibility, and even riches. In November, we are going to have another election in America, and people misrepresenting the truth is so rampant. If people were to live by this book, there wouldn’t be all the injustices, prejudice, bias, deception and foolish things going on around us. Obviously there is a battle going on as the enemy continues to rule in this world. However, the only weapon that Satan has against us is deception. The Lord Jesus, our Savior has stripped him of all authority and power. He has no power to force anyone to do anything. He gains access to people because of a lack of knowledge and when we allow sin, we provide him an inroad to us. Hosea 4:6 says that “His people perish for lack of knowledge.” The very purpose of Proverbs is to equip us with godly knowledge for everyday living. According 1 Timothy 3:16-17 “All scripture is given by the inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.”

I am so grateful that I listened to two Baptists preachers who teach and practice Proverbs. They are both still serving the Lord, they are highly respected, and their reputation unquestionable, and their ministries still impact the world. Again, why Proverbs? To instruct us in wisdom and to help us perceive words of understanding. It’s the Lord’s will that everyone should have knowledge, wisdom, justice, judgement and equity. It’s never God who doesn’t give, but we who don’t receive. “His truth (word) will set us free” (John 8:32). So, meditating on these truths will keep us from being fooled by the devil and his agents. I have read Proverbs hundreds of times yet I always get something new each month. There is a substance to these verses that is below the surface. Proverbs requires us to meditate on it in order to absorb the truths contained therein.

It’s the beginning of the month and we are entering in the best joyous season, why not start today with Proverbs 1 as it is the first day of the month.

I pray that you will fall in love with these truths as I have.
