Last week at DTS training, I was deeply challenged by Lynn Schall as he shared about the transformation he has witnessed among oral people groups when he committed his time, focus, and obedience to one clear calling.

He said something that stayed with me: if we want extraordinary transformation, we need an extraordinary prayer strategy.

Then he told the story of how he and his family traveled to over a hundred villages in a remote region of Asia—simply to stand and pray. Years later, they followed the same pattern in another nation, and entire communities that once had no gospel presence began to see churches planted among them.

As I listened, the Lord gently spoke to my heart:
“If you want an extraordinary DTS this fall, you need to spend extraordinary time in prayer.”

So on my first work day back in Kansas, I obeyed.

I took my Bible, journal, and a YWAM book up to the classroom where we will hold lectures this fall. I spent over an hour there in prayer and intercession—praying for future students, for our leadership team, and for everything still ahead that only God can bring to life.

There’s something powerful about praying in the very place where we’re believing God to move.

Last week, I had the opportunity to travel to San José, Costa Rica, for a 5-day DTS Foundational Workshop through YWAM.

As Base Director of YWAM Cross Wind and coordinator for our Fall DTS, it was a valuable time of learning, refreshing, and revisiting the heart behind Discipleship Training School. The workshop was bilingual, so I also enjoyed the opportunity to practice my Spanish while connecting with leaders from different nations.

I returned home even more excited about what God is going to do through our first DTS this fall! We are expectant for lives to be transformed as students grow in their relationship with God and discover His heart for the world.

Last night we gathered as a community for a special Love Feast here at YWAM Cross Wind.

It was a beautiful celebration of what God has been doing in our hearts this week and of the relationships He is building among us. Together, our team prepared the tables, decorated them, lit candles, and filled the room with worship.

As we shared a meal, we also shared stories—moments that had impacted us, and meaningful experiences from the week. Around the table, friendships deepened and hearts connected.

Afterward, we took communion together, remembering the incredible love of Jesus and the sacrifice He made for us. We then ended the evening with foot washing, practicing servant leadership and taking time to speak blessings and prophetic encouragement over one another.

It was a sacred and memorable time—one of those evenings that reminds us that discipleship is not just about learning together, but about loving, serving, and growing together in Christ.

Leadership Training for Camp David started this week, and already God is moving in powerful ways.

Base Leader and Camp Director Ben has been teaching on:
• God’s heart for children
• Trauma-informed care
• How to lead children to Jesus

Stories and testimonies have been shared—years of pain, loss, and brokenness… but also stories of healing, redemption, and hope.

As a team, we’ve been encountering God deeply in worship and prayer. We are experiencing His heart for the broken, the grieving, and those desperate for hope.

We are crying out for this generation and praying for transformation in the lives of the 130+ children and youth coming to camp this summer.

We believe God sees every child, knows every story, and wants to reveal His love as Father in life-changing ways.

The vision of YWAM is to go to the least, the last, and the lost.

At YWAM Cross Wind, we carry that vision into one of our main outreaches each summer: camps for children in foster care and children with incarcerated parents.

These kids have walked through pain, rejection, neglect, trauma, abuse, and loss. Yet in the middle of it all, they are still hungry to know God — to experience Him as a loving Father and discover the hope only He can give.

This summer, you can be part of what God is doing in June and July — at no cost to you. The funds are being raised so you can simply come and serve.

If you are a worship leader, come lead children at risk into God’s presence.

If you value children, come mentor, lead, disciple, and speak God’s abundant HOPE into young lives.

We’ve had some people asking how YWAM Cross Wind began…what our beginning in YWAM looked like.

The vision first came in 2014 while touring YWAM Madison. As we listened to the God stories of transformation, we knew God was speaking to us about children of prisoners and foster kids. We felt Him ask us, “Would you be willing to disciple them and take them to the nations?”

So we began leaning in. We started reading books by Loren and Darlene Cunningham and buying copies for our team and board members so we could grow in understanding together.

In 2018, we visited YWAM Kona and met with one of the leaders in the prayer room to ask God, “What’s next?” But the answer we sensed was simply: wait.

Then in 2021, after a week of ministry time at YWAM Kansas City, God told us to go look at a property in Kansas. As we walked the land, He showed us this was where He wanted us to pioneer a base. So we made an offer on the property—believing God could provide—and then left for Chico, CA for our Family DTS.

During our DTS, we shared the vision and asked if YWAM Chico would commend and commission us. After prayer, interviews, and seeking God, they met with us and told us they felt God had confirmed the call to launch a new base.

In May 2022, we were introduced at the Western ACT Gathering alongside several other pioneering bases.

There are many parts of our story that are unconventional and unique, but through many confirmations, open doors, and countless moments of faith, God has continued to reaffirm the vision over and over again.

We still believe He is building the teams, the schools, and the future ministry.

Our heart continues to be:
To Know God.
To Make Him Known.
And To Not Give Up!!

On Monday, during YWAM Cross Wind base intercession, God led us to pray for vulnerable children and against the wolves 🐺 in sheep’s clothing who are infiltrating our churches, schools, and communities to harm the next generation.

We were reminded that the battle is not merely natural — it is spiritual. As believers, we are called to stay vigilant, walk in discernment, and stand watch in prayer for our children.

“But if anyone abuses one of these little ones who believe in me, it would be better for him to have a heavy boulder tied around his neck and be thrown into the sea than to face the punishment he deserves!”
‭‭Mark‬ ‭9‬:‭42‬ ‭TPT‬‬

“Your hand-to-hand combat is not with human beings, but with the highest principalities and authorities operating in rebellion under the heavenly realms. For they are a powerful class of demon-gods and evil spirits that hold this dark world in bondage.”
‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭6‬:‭12‬ ‭TPT‬‬

We also prayed against fear and intimidation, choosing instead to walk in the authority Christ has given us — remembering that greater is He who is in us than he who is in the world.

May we be people who pray, discern, protect, and stand firm for the sake of the next generation. 🙏
