On the second Sunday of the month, Herndon UMC is offering an opportunity to explore more about how United Methodists live out core Christian beliefs. Whether this is your first Sunday or you have been coming for years, you are welcome to bring snacks and drinks to Room 105 after worship and get to know the UMC and some church leaders a little better, and learn more about what it means to be a part of the Herndon UMC church family.

This month’s topic is "Our Purpose and Identity." United Methodists are rooted in the mission of making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. Faith is lived out through love of God and neighbor. Our discussion questions invite us to explore our roles individually and collectively.

A prayer for Memorial Day 2026:

Loving God, this Memorial Day we pause to remember those who gave their lives in service to others. We hold their memory close with great gratitude, not rushing past the cost of that sacrifice.

Lord, hear our prayer.

Sustaining God, be near to those who grieve lives lost and stories unfinished, those who carry their absence each day. For spouses holding things together, for children growing up in absence, for parents who worry and wait, wrap them with your grace.

Lord, hear our prayer.

Restoring God, we long for a world where peace is not fragile or distant. Show us how to be part of that work in the ways we speak, listen, and interact with one another. Heal what is broken in our world and in us. Give wisdom to leaders, courage to peacemakers, and a steady hope for us that your goodness is still at work.

Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayers. Amen.

It's the third Wednesday of the month and time for a Worship & Fellowship Dinner. All are welcome. Join the Costa Rica Mission Team for spaghetti and to learn more about the work of Costa Rica Mission Project. Herndon UMC has partnered with CRMP since 2009.

Dinner is at 6 PM in Doe Fellowship Hall. It is free and open to everyone. Freewill donations will be collected to help CRMP purchase a new truck.

Lord, grant me the strength to live by the Golden Rule: to treat others with the same compassion, respect, and love I desire for myself. When the world is chaotic and selfish, help me to be a beacon of Your light. Help me to pause when I am tempted to react in anger and give me the grace to respond with patience and understanding.

I pray for a heart that is slow to judge and quick to forgive. Strengthen me to lift others up, to act with honesty, and to be a source of encouragement. Guide me with grace to walk in love, kindness, and integrity.

Lord, when I am tired or selfish, renew my spirit and remind me of Your love. Give me the courage to do what is right, even when it is difficult, and to live each day in a way that brings honor to You. Amen.

After you arise in the morning, and maybe while you are eating breakfast, you begin to think about: what’s for dinner tonight?

Well today, the answer to that question is the Mission Pin Dinner tonight at 6 PM in Doe Fellowship Hall!

Come, enjoy, delicious, casseroles, salads, and scrumptious desserts prepared by you, the members of Herndon United Women in Faith.

And this dinner comes with the entertainment of surprise as we discover who the mission pin recipients are this year! And we will enjoy the music of Herndon‘s own gospel trio.

WINTER STORM EXPECTED.

It is looking increasingly likely that the church building will be closed on Sunday (look to email and the website for formal announcement), but there will still be CHURCH on ZOOM at 10 AM. The service will be recorded and uploaded to YouTube later. The link and specific instructions will be in the Friday eNews, or you can email [email protected] for the information.

After worship, we will allow a fellowship time. This will be cropped from the video before uploading to YouTube.
