Draw pairs of shapes (hearts, circles, and so on) on the backs of bandages. Mix up the bandages and challenge your preschoolers to make matches. Talk about how bandages help us when we are hurt, but God gives us something even better. Sin hurts our friendship with God, but when God forgives us, we can have a friendship with Him.

Take 1 day this week to highlight these 2 things and spend 3 minutes talking about them: Allow your preschoolers to examine a bandage. Ask, “When do you use a bandage, and how does a bandage help you? How does Jesus help when we make wrong choices and are hurting?” (A bandage helps make a hurt spot better. But the best news is that God loves us, and He forgives of the wrong choices we make when we ask Him. Knowing and following Jesus makes everything better!)

This week’s Bible story came from Mark 2 and Luke 5. When men carried their paralyzed friend on a mat to see Jesus, He healed the man and forgave his sins. Preschoolers learned that God can forgive all of us through Jesus, which is better than anything else we could ask for. Ask your preschoolers yes-or-no questions about what they can and cannot do, ending with, “Can God forgive you?” Celebrate with a loud yes!

We are so excited to start our new themes for October! This month’s Big Deal in Preschool is, “Stuck on You! God Forgives Me and You!” and in Elementary our Simple Truth is “I Am Forgiven,” with the Theme Fresh Start. We will teach that God can forgive us, make us whole, give us hope, and give us grace. See you tomorrow!

Take time today to pray as a family—talk and listen to God. Pray these four things:
1. Thank God that He values you, seeking you and making you on purpose and with worth.�
2. Ask God to help you live in the joy of knowing that He loves you so much, and He sent Jesus to rescue you from sin.�
3. Pray for one another to recognize appreciate that God values you.�
4. Choose one or two other people to pray for—that they would know how much God values them and for them to turn to trust and follow Him.

This week, take 1 day to ask these 2 questions and spend 3 minutes talking about them: Even when we are good and make good choices, why do we need God’s forgiveness? How does God’s forgiveness through Jesus show that God loves and values us?

The disciple Paul wrote to Christians in Ephesus that sin separates us from God, but Jesus gives new life now and forever to those who trust Him. Kids learned that rescue through Jesus is the greatest gift. It demonstrates how much God loves and values us! Sit in a dark room and talk about some hard things that are caused by sin. Then turn on the lights, celebrate the amazing new life we have in Jesus, and talk about what is different now.

Provide play dough for your preschoolers. Draw a shape on paper and instruct your preschoolers to make the same shape with the play dough. Continue drawing more shapes and allowing them to create. Talk together about how they shaped and created with the play dough and made things on purpose—not accidentally. Remind your preschoolers that God also made them on purpose, and they are who they are because God values them.

Take 1 day this week to highlight these 2 things and spend 3 minutes talking about them: Point out different wheels on different vehicles (toy cars, regular cars, wagons, bikes, and so forth). Ask, “What is different about each of these wheels? Each set of wheels is made on purpose to help the object move the right way. God also made us on purpose, and He helps us love and follow Him!”

Preschoolers learned that God is the Creator of everything—including people. In Genesis 1:26–2:25, God made the first people unique and set apart from the rest of creation. He made them in His own image. Preschoolers can know God made them on purpose and in His image too. Every person is created on purpose—none of us is here by accident. Invite your preschoolers to create something, then tell you about their creations. Share that in the same way they created something on purpose, God made them on purpose.
