What a wonderful Memorial Day Weekend at America's Cemetery. Started out Friday night with a Spaghetti Dinner Benefit for the Memorial 100 Day runners from the 3/25 Marines at the Farrell VFW Post 5286. Saturday morning the Hickory VFW Post 6166, with help from Hickory High School, placed all the flags for the over 2800 Veterans plots throughout the cemetery. Later Saturday morning, breakfast with the runners at Sharon American Legion Post 299, where the run organizers held their safety briefing for the run. Saturday at noon the runners left America's Cemetery for their 100 mile trek to Pittsburgh's WWII Memorial to honor 48 members of their unit lost during a deployment to Iraq in 2005. All 48 members names are on our War on Terror Veterans Memorial in the cemetery. Monday was the Hickory VFW Parade that finished at the War on Terror Veterans Memorial. A special service was held for the interment of WWII Veteran Irwin Stovroff. The memorial was beautiful and lots of people attended. Thanks everyone for coming out to America's Cemetery to honor our true American Heroes.
