Sunday we stayed in Acts 8 and moved from crowds to chariots - Philip and the Ethiopian eu**ch on a desert road.

Three charges from the text: when God sends you, go. Meet people where they're at - listen, ask, then explain Jesus from the Scriptures. And when they respond to Jesus, get them in the water.

Tomorrow - Acts 8:26-40.

A guy on a desert road, reading Isaiah, confused.
And God sends Philip to run up alongside his chariot and ask, "Do you understand what you're reading?"

Honestly - I love that question. Because a lot of us don't. And that's okay.

Peter didn't mess around with Simon.

"May your silver be destroyed with you… your heart is not right before God."

Oof.

But he didn't stop there. In the very next breath - repent. Pray. There's still a way back.

That's the balance I want for us as a church.
Serious about God. Gracious toward people.

Dude - Simon literally tried to buy the Holy Spirit.

Easy to shake our heads at him. Harder when I notice how often I try to earn what God already gave me for free.

Familiar doesn't mean biblical.

Oof. That one landed on me Sunday too.

Syncretism is a fancy word for something we all do - take a little faith, a little culture, a little family tradition, and blend it together until "truth becomes whatever works for you."

I've caught myself doing it more than I'd like to admit lol.
