Sunday School is held during the service in the church basement. The church began with the arrival of the “Gospel Trio” –Gertrude Horn, Norma Erickson, and Helen Triboulet in 1936 to the Hereford area to hold revival meetings. In 1939, a group of people decided to form a non-denominational church and a committee of three. LO Thompson, JR Craig, and WC Elder met with Miss Horn to write a constituti
on. In January of 1940 it was adopted and 23 people became charter members. In 1942, Miss Horn and a group of parishioners attended a public auction and bought the former Coleman Church building. Then a lot was purchased, a basement dug, foundation prepared and on December 24, 1943, the church was set on the foundation. In December 1944 the church was dedicated after much hard work by many volunteers. The “Gospel Trio” became a “Duo” in 1937 when Helen Triboulet returned to California to be married. In 1946, Norma Erickson also returned to California to be married and Miss Horn remained to be “The Prairie Preacher”. The first Easter sunrise service was held April 21, 1946 and is a tradition that continues today. Miss Horn passed away on April 24, 1999 and the work she began is being continued by her faithful assistant, of more than 30 years, Reverend Carol Opdycke.
