Today, the celebrates Juneteenth and commemorates the abolishment of slavery in the United States while honoring the resilience and freedom of Black Americans throughout our nation's history. ❤️

As a reminder, City offices are closed today, June 19, in observance of Juneteenth. Regular hours of operation will resume Monday, June 22.

Revelation 21 describes the destination: all the "chaos markers" are gone: no sea, no darkness, perfect, peaceful order. God Himself is the light, and He is lives among His people in a way that will never be disrupted again.

That is where the bilbical story is going. It's where OUR story is going. Philippians 1:6 makes it personal: "He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus."

The chaos of Genesis 1:2 was not the finished product. It was a starting point. The same is true for you. Whatever is unfinished, unresolved, or falling apart right now, God isn't looking at it as the final verdict. He's looking at it the way He looked at the formless deep: as raw material. Chaos is a phase. It's not the destination.

Something to consider: What would you do differently this week if you genuinely believed that your current mess was a beginning rather than a conclusion?

Moses didn't find God waiting for him on the other side of the darkness. He found Him in it.

Exodus 20:21 says Moses "approached the thick darkness where God was." Not past the darkness. Not beyond it. The darkness was the address.

This should change how we see darkness in Scripture and in our own lives. We tend to treat difficult seasons as interruptions, or as the distance between where we are and where God is. But the biblical pattern runs the other direction. The hard place is often where we encounter God; the place where our faith grows stronger.

Something to consider: Is there a situation in your life you've been waiting to get through before you expect to sense God's presence? What would it look like to stop waiting for the other side and trust that He's already in the middle of it with you?

Most of us read Genesis 1:2 and move past it quickly to get to the excitement of God's first recorded words, "Let there be light."

But verse 2 is worth sitting with. Before God spoke order into existence, there was formlessness. Before light, there was utter darkness. And before there was order, there was a tumultuous, chaotic sea.

But the poet of Genesis 1 tucks hope into that darkness by writing, "The Spirit of God moved [hovered] over the face of the deep." God was fully present in the darkness. He was hovering like an eagle over its young, protecting, providing, and full of creative life.

Something to consider: Where in your life right now does things feel formless or out of control? That's not necessarily a sign that God has stepped back. According to Genesis, it might be exactly where He tends to show up. Don't lose hope. Take a breath, and trust that God is closer than you think.
