Jerusalem had fallen. The temple was rubble. Tens of thousands of God's people were living in captivity in Babylon, wondering whether their God had lost.

He hadn't.

Into one of the darkest moments in Israel's history, a poet wrote two words that changed everything: "Comfort, comfort." Not because the suffering was over. Not because justice had arrived yet. But because the God of Israel had not abandoned His people in exile. And He was about to make His move.

This Sunday we open Isaiah 40 and find out why that ancient word still carries weight today.

John 1:14 says the Word became flesh and "tabernacled" among us. That word choice was deliberate. The presence that filled the garden, then the wilderness tabernacle, then Solomon's temple, took on flesh and walked into human history.

Jesus said "I am the way." He opened the path back to the garden. Revelation 21 tells us how the story ends: God tabernacles among His people again. No more sea. No more curse. Not expulsion. Homecoming.

The entire arc of Genesis 3 leads here. Trust Him. Follow Him. He is leading you, and all of us, back to the garden...home.

Most of us read the exile from Eden as pure punishment. But look at the text. God's stated concern was that Adam and Eve would eat from the Tree of Life and live forever in their broken state. The exile was punitive AND protective.

By sending them out, God preserved the possibility of restoration. Of reconciliation. Of return.

Put that in the context of painful removals in your own life. Not every hard loss is abandonment. Sometimes God removes what would make your current brokenness permanent, in order to keep restoration possible. The exile was always meant to be temporary. Yours is too.

Before God sent Adam and Eve out of the garden, He clothed them. Their own attempt at covering shame had been fig leaves: improvised and wholly inadequate.

God's provision was something else entirely. An innocent animal died so that their shame could be properly covered. The same hands that formed them from the dust now dressed them for exile.

Romans 5:8 says God demonstrated His love toward us in that, while we were still sinners, Jesus died for us. Through Him, God offers us what Isaiah called "robes of righteousness" to replace whatever we're using to cover our own sin and shame.

God has something better for you today! Say "yes" to Him.

Before God sent Adam and Eve out of the garden, He did something unexpected: He clothed them.

He replaced their fig leaves with garments of skin. Real covering. The same hands that formed them from dust now dressed them for exile.

This Sunday we're closing out the Eden story and asking where it was always headed. Because the exile was never the end. It was the beginning of the story and the starting point for a long journey home.

📖 Genesis 3:20–24 | Week 11 of From Garden to Glory

Genesis 3:15 is called the protoevangelium: a Latin phrase meaning "first gospel." In the middle of a curse directed at a serpent, God embedded the first promise of a Savior.

One of Eve's descendants would one day crush the serpent's head. He would suffer in the process: the serpent would strike His heel. But the heel would win. That descendant is Jesus.

The serpent did strike: a crown of thorns, a Roman cross, a borrowed tomb. But three days later, death itself was defeated. The way back to the garden was opened. Romans 16:20 says the God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. It is already decided. It is finished.
