What a beautiful reminder of what it means to be the Church.

Thank you to everyone who took time out of your busy schedules this week to love, encourage, and celebrate the moms of our Embrace Grace ministry. Whether you attended the baby shower, brought food, donated gifts, sent cards, offered prayers, or simply shared words of encouragement—you made a difference.

Your generosity and compassion demonstrated the love of Christ in a tangible way. More importantly, you showed these moms and their growing families that they are not alone. They have a church family that cares for them, walks alongside them, and believes in them.

This is what the Church does. We show up. We love our neighbors. We create spaces of belonging, hope, and grace.

Thank you for helping us be the hands and feet of Jesus and for making Calvary a place where families can find support, encouragement, and community.

We are grateful for each of you and proud of the incredible witness you continue to share with our community.

Venture Awarded $14,000 Grant to Expand Language Access

Venture Compassionate Ministries is pleased to announce it has been awarded a $14,000 grant from the Upstate NY District Church of the Nazarene Missional Grant Fund to support a new initiative expanding language access at the Twelve Loaves Food Pantry.

The grant will fund the implementation of translation technology and multilingual communication tools designed to help ensure that every guest who visits the pantry can fully understand, navigate, and participate in the guest-choice shopping experience, regardless of the language they speak.

Since opening in March 2025, the Twelve Loaves Food Pantry has served more than 10,000 individuals and 3,200 households across six counties. An estimated 35–40% of pantry guests whose primary language is not English or have limited English proficiency (LEP). The pantry regularly serves individuals and families who speak Spanish, Arabic, Russian, Chinese, American Sign Language (ASL), and other languages.

“This grant is about much more than technology,” said David R. Riddell, Director of Venture Compassionate Ministries. “It is about ensuring that every person who walks through our doors is welcomed with dignity, understood with compassion, and empowered to make informed choices for themselves and their families. Language should never be a barrier to belonging.”

What happens when students, businesses, and community organizations come together around a shared goal?

A challenge inside the Twelve Loaves Food Pantry sparked an innovative partnership between Venture Compassionate Ministries, the Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering Technology Department at the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), and Wegmans — resulting in the creation of the “Step Friendly Shopping Cart.”

Designed to help volunteers safely navigate a difficult curb while assisting pantry guests, this project became about far more than engineering. It became a story of collaboration, accessibility, dignity, and loving our neighbors well.

Here are a few helpful pantry tips to make your visit smooth:

🕙 Doors open at 10:00 AM
Arriving early doesn’t get you in sooner. If you arrive before 10:00, please remain in your car until doors open.
(10:00–11:00 AM is typically our busiest hour.)

🕦 Looking for the shortest wait?
Try arriving after 11:30 AM — many days you can walk right in with little to no wait.

🚨 Please arrive before 12:40 PM
That’s when we close our doors to the last guest — and we don’t want to miss you.

👜 Bring reusable bags if you can
Our volunteers appreciate it! Forgot them? No worries — we’ve got you covered.

Congratulations to Venture on this recent grant supporting the Twelve Loaves Food Pantry. We are grateful for the many of you here at Calvary who support the work of the food pantry and show love to our neighbors with dignity, compassion, and care.

Venture Compassionate Ministries, Inc. is pleased to announce that it has received a $10,000 grant from the M&T Charitable Foundation in support of its Twelve Loaves Food Pantry, a vital community resource addressing rising food insecurity across the region.

The grant will directly support pantry operations and food distribution efforts at a time when demand for emergency food assistance continues to rise at an alarming pace.

“We are deeply grateful to the M&T Charitable Foundation for their investment in our work,” said David R. Riddell, Director of Venture Compassionate Ministries. “This support strengthens our ability to meet growing community needs with dignity, compassion, and care, especially for households navigating economic uncertainty.”

Food insecurity has increased significantly over the past several years due to rising food costs, housing instability, medical expenses, and disruptions to public benefits. In 2025, Venture Compassionate Ministries served more than 2,700 households across a four-county region, reaching over 8,000 individuals experiencing food insecurity. This represents a 33 percent increase compared to 2024, when more than 6,000 individuals were served.
