Our countries problems are rooted in cultural and spiritual issues - not political ones. Policy changes are like necessary surgeries to prolong life for terminal cancers. If you do not stop the root causes of the cancer, you are simply delaying the inevitable. This is coming from someone who works in policy daily. Why God put me here - I'll never know. But the more bills I see and the more ideas I'm pitched - the Spirit reminds me every time, it's just a band-aid because we refuse to address the real cause of our problems.
We stopped teaching children to love one another - and children start hating and acting violently to one another with consequences to deter that behavior. Now children fear for their lives in school.
It's not a lack of laws in this country that is the problem. It's a lack of love - as demonstrated and embodied in both the teachings and life of Jesus Christ.
The further you are from Christ - even in the church - the more violence, hate, and suffering you invite on your community and children to endure. The Apostle Paul said in Romans 13:8-10 "Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for whoever loves others has fulfilled the law. 9 The commandments, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You shall not steal,” “You shall not covet,” and whatever other command there may be, are summed up in this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” 10 Love does no harm to a neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law."
Jesus answered the young arrogant man when asked "What is the greatest commandment?" Jesus said "To love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength; and the second is like it - to love your neighbor as yourself."
When you are born again to believe in Jesus - you are born of the Spirit. But what is the fruit of the Spirit? Paul's letter to the Galatians prominently declares: "The fruit of the Spirit is Love."
Scripture plainly teaches that "where the Spirit of the Lord is - there is liberty?"
Law is a natural infringement on liberty. The more law you have - the more liberty you lose. The less you love your neighbor - the more law you need to restrain evil behavior, and in turn, the more liberty to relinquish to authorities.
As I read posts on social media where people mock their confused neighbors demanding law or supporting things that are morally wrong - they don't pray for them. They appeal to a politician or a chance of law as their deliverance.
When we look to government, rather than God, to solve our problems - it is a reminder that we are the problem.
