Psalm 3 // Resting In God
Psalm 3 follows David’s journey as he is fleeing and hiding from those who are seeking to kill him. We can imagine David must have been scared and anxious knowing that at any moment he could be found and killed. However, in the midst of this chaos David begins to remind himself of Gods faithfulness and chooses to magnify who God is in the midst of his frightening present circumstances.
David declares: “but You O Lord, are a shield surrounding me, my glory, and the lifter of my head” (Ps. 3:3)
🔸 “God is my shield”; He protects us & fights for us.
🔸 “God is my glory and the lifter of my head”; He is our strength. When we are weak then He is S T R O N G and will give us the strength to continue.
Verses 4-6 tell us that not only did God answer David’s cry but he gave him R E S T. He actually gave David sleep and protected him through the night. It was a miracle for David to be able to rest knowing his life could be taken at any moment. Yet, he found rest in God.
Resting in the midst of the storm requires trust. When we lean on God and choose to trust Him, not only does He walk with us through the eye of the storm— He gives us rest. He gives us P E A C E. In this moment of darkness, David chose to declare who he KNOWS God is, who God has been, and who God always will be over his present circumstances. David recognized that his safety was found in God. “Salvation belongs to the Lord; Your blessings be on Your people.” (Ps.3:8)
How comforting is it to know that we belong to Jesus? That we are His and that He goes before and behind us, surrounding us on all sides and walking with us through life!
