This is the first lesson in a series of Biblical Survey.
The transitions from slide to slide are off.
I hope to have that corrected in the next lesson.

First lesson of a Bible survey prepared for the Henderson Church of Christ. I do apologize that the transitions cut off the last words of each scene. We will...

We are all only given a specific amount of time. An eighty year old has lived to see 2.5 billion seconds. If I am blessed enough to live that long, I have already seen over half of them. That is a sobering thought. An even more sobering thought is how I have spent them. Most of us do not get the recommended eight hours of sleep - but if we did, then we would sleep a third of our allotted time. [ 294 more words ]

What I Learned - Humility
Another lesson we can learn from the COVID pandemic is humility.

In the early days of the pandemic we learned that not even the rich and powerful could avoid infection. We heard of movie stars like Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson getting sick in Australia. We learned …

The title of this, and the next several posts will be “What I’ve Learned.” Herein, there will be different reflections that have come to me since this pandemic began. The title is a misnomer, but at the same time it is not. For example, I have always known that I would die. I have always known that it could happen at any time - but it never felt like it would anytime soon. [ 466 more words ]

Imagine, if you will, a day that lasted so much longer than it should have. You look up in the sky, and you see the sun in the same position it has been in for the last five hours. The next morning, you notice it still has not set, and it does not for several more hours. While something similar happens in parts of the world, such as Alaska, this was a miraculous event. There seems to be a lot of confusion these days about the character and purpose of the church. Some seem to be going through an identity crisis, especially with the current status of our collective assemblies. Now, don’t get me wrong. Meeting together on the first day of the week is an important activity for God’s people to be doing. It is something that was designed for our benefit, and not the Lord’s, for He is deity despite our belief/unbelief or obedience/disobedience. [ 281 more words ]

One thing that we often say is, "I don't care what others think..." There are different reasons that we may make this claim. Sometimes it is because we are in a position where we need to make a decision that we expect will be unpopular with some. It could be coming from a defeatist attitude, our feelings may have been hurt and so we tell others we don't care what people think or say any way. [ 509 more words ]

We live in extraordinary times. I am not speaking directly of the current pandemic. Our times are extraordinary because of the relative comfort that we have known over the course of several decades. This has not been the through the majority of human history. Disease and destruction have always been the way of life. The human experience has always been marked by a struggle for survival until we pass away. [ 304 more words ]

There is an ancient and horrible disease that was greatly feared in the days of antiquity. Today we call it Hansen's disease, but it is still better known as leprosy. According to WHO, there are about 180,000 people in the world who have been diagnosed with it. About one hundred people in the USA are given the diagnosis every year. [ 319 more words ]

The quarantine continues, and in many ways it is all very confusing. Not only is it confusing, but it is also frustrating. We like our routines. Humans are creatures of habit. When will things go back to normal? Only God knows. There is one thing that we can do that will help us to remain peaceful, and that is to remain thankful. [ 545 more words ]

This evening the elders met to discuss what we should do as per COVID-19, and the guidelines that the government set forth to try to curb the threat that we all face. We have been told that there should be gatherings of no more than ten people, and that we ought to be separated by at least six feet. We are blessed to have many elderly members here at Henderson, as well as several others who may be vulnerable to the virus. Therefore, we will not be having services this Sunday or Bible Study on the following Wednesday. We are prayerful that there will be a shift in the way this thing is going very soon, so we will update you next week as to whether or not we will meet on the 29th.

If you have any questions, feel free to call Mike, Monty or myself.

Stay well and God bless.

Bill
