When we pray for someone’s deliverance or for God to intervene in some situation, it is entirely appropriate to ask God to make it plain that what happens is no coincidence, but a direct answer to prayer.

Help me, O LORD my God! Save me according to your steadfast love! Let them know that this is your hand; you, O LORD, have done it!

God knows that our sins weigh us down and keep us from God’s best. When we confess them, we take them off our shoulders and place them on His. Only then can we walk with heads upright once more.

But for you, O LORD, do I wait; it is you, O Lord my God, who will answer.

In giving, as in all other areas of Christian living, God wants our hearts. He wants willing, joyful, eager participation in His work, not grumbling, halfhearted compliance to a rule, as if we did God a favor by doing so.

The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.

Why does God insist that we confess our sins to Him (Ps. 32:5; 1 John 1:9)? Why should we “take words” with us when we return to the Lord? Confession breaks the power that sin wields over us in the dark.

I will heal their apostasy; I will love them freely, for my anger has turned from them.

If the Lord’s presence makes us joyful, then so should serving Him make us happy. Only when one takes no pleasure in God does serving Him seem like a chore and a burden.

Serve the LORD with gladness! Come into his presence with singing!

How can we meditate on God’s majestic splendor? We can recall the personal victories He has given us. We can ponder His attributes. We can glory in a mountain peak. And most of all, we can focus on His Son.

At both the baptism of Jesus and the Transfiguration, God the Father publicly declared His great pleasure in His only Son, Jesus. Jesus speaks for the Father, and we are to obey Him as we obey the Father.

He was still speaking when, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to him.”

Just as Abraham kept on his course of faith by trusting in God’s promise to reward his obedience, so Jesus kept on His infinitely tougher course by looking toward God’s promise to reward Him for His obedience.

Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,

Just like His Father, “the Everlasting God” (Gen. 21:33), whose “ways are everlasting” (Hab. 3:6) and who says, “I do not change” (Mal. 3:6), so Jesus remains the same forever.

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.
