FAITH, FAITH

At the core of faith, there is that innermost, indivisible call called commitment. Faith always commands some decisive action. More often than not, it represents an irresistible decision.

Lord, give us the faith to make the move at the right time in the right way. Protect us from the false security that indecision foolishly promises us. Today we should move from faith. We shall not be mesmerized by fear. Thank You, God, for giving us the faith to make decisions courageously,
Amen

7 Devotional Readings from John Piper on the Holy Spirit

Everyone who has ever sewn has a tomato pincushion... our Grandmothers, mothers, aunts, literally everybody, and I wondered why. Well, according to folklore, people once thought the tomato was a symbol of good fortune and prosperity so when people moved into a new home they placed a tomato on the mantle. Since tomatoes are only seasonal, the ladies would create them from fabric and fill them with leaves and things from the outdoors.

During this same era the ladies did all the sewing for their families and their hand needles were very important, so they placed their important hand needle in their fabric “good luck” tomato and the tomato pin cushion was born.

When I think of the pin cushion, I see my grandmother’s wrinkled hands, the bright red tomato next to her, sewing away. The tomato may not bring prosperity and good fortune but it definitely has nostalgia. 🍅

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY.

What do I need to clean out out of my heart to make more room for God ?

God longs to live close to us, to share the space of our lives so we can enjoy intimacy with God and with one another. Clearing the junk out of our hearts can be difficult, but when we do, we open ourselves to experiencing life as God mean
it it to be.

Dear God,
Thank You for loving us enough to enter our messy hearts and clear space for eternal life, Amen.

There are several key words in the biblical lexicon that are similar, but different. And there difference makes all the difference! JUSTICE means getting what we deserve.
MERCY means not getting what we deserve. And GRACE means getting what we don't deserve. All have there importance, and each has its place in our life. Justice we leave to God
(Hebrews 10:30).
Grace we can generously dispence toward others. But MERCY? That's a harder one. Remember, mercy means not giving someone what they deserve. We have received mercy from God in that He spared us from the punishment for our sins and punished His Son imstead. So what do we do when someone offends us and we feel they deserve our reproach? We shoyld do what God has done for us--show mercy. Instead of dispensing judgement or vengence, we show love, forgiveness, and understanding. In short, we show mercy. Why? Because God has shown mercy toward us.

The next time you are impulsively or deliberately inclined to judge ore retaliate, remember to show mercy. Give to others what God has given to you.

FOR YOU ??And me??

While we all experience suffering in this life, we can take comfort in knowing that Jesus knows what we experience. Being fully human, He felt every emotion and need that we feel today. He was hungry when He spent 40 days in the wilderness. He was exhausted as He slept on the boat. He was devastated when His friend Lavarus died. He felt anxious as He prayed in the Garden of Gethsema ne before going to the cross.

No one in human history has suffed more than Jesus; having committed no sin of His own. He bore ours on the cross. He was beaten and mocked without offering scorn in return. He willingly chose to be separated from the Father, so that we can experience a life in union with Him.
"He Himself bore our sins in His body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By His wounds you have been healed. For you were straying like sheep, but have now returned to the Shepherd and overseer of your souls"
(1Peter2:24-25)

I get overwhelmed thinking about everything that Jesus endured, just for me and you! Glory be to God!
