Here's a poem about addiction and recovery:

"Shadows in the Dark"

In the depths of my soul, a war was waged
A battle between darkness and a fading light
Addiction's grip was tight, a relentless hold
A whispered lie, "Just one more," and I'd grow old

In the shadows, I'd hide, from the world outside
Afraid to face the truth, I'd rather step aside
The weight of my secrets, crushed my heart and mind
A prisoner of my own, I was forever left behind

But then came a glimmer, a spark in the night
A voice that whispered, "You can fight, you can take flight"
Recovery's road was long, winding and unsure
But with each step forward, I found my heart could endure

The darkness slowly faded, as the light began to shine
I found my voice, my strength, my will to be divine
I rose up from the ashes, like a phoenix born anew
I found my way, my truth, my heart, and my spirit, too

Now I walk in the sunlight, with my head held high
I'm not the same person, I've said goodbye to the lie
I'm still a work in progress, but I'm on my way
Free from the shadows, I'm living a brand new day.
