Please remember that this coming Saturday, May 2, we are asking those interested to help us tidy the cemetery. We will be filling ground squirrel holes, trimming bushes and trees, possibly installing a new water drip-line along the sidewalk, and I will be finally installing my reproduction of Langford Peel's tomstone. Thing's will begin at 9am, and we plan to be done by 3pm.

Benton Avenue Cemetery and its workers, the 4681 Last Chance Gulch Clampers, are participating in this year's fundraiser of Greater Helena Gives. You may pledge from 8pm on Wednesday, May 6, until 8pm on Thursday, May 7. Last year our 25-year-old tractor mower broke down. Amazingly, we finally found the parts to fix it, but we also began searching for a better mower. My gosh, we found a gently used zero-turn mower. Now we have outgrown our small storage shed. We could really use donations. Don't have the funds? Then join our public work-party on Saturday, May 2, beginning at 9am. We have many ways you can help.

Hello. I’m the Turkey Vulture. Sorry for the "circle of death" I’m doing over the highway.

I know I’m not a "pretty" bird. But my stomach acid is so strong it can dissolve lead shot and kill the deadliest bacteria known to man. I am the "End Point" for disease.

I prevent outbreaks of Rabies, Botulism, and Anthrax in your neighborhood.

If I didn't exist, roadkill would rot and spread sickness to your pets and children. I am the most important sanitation worker you have.

What to do:
Give us space when we're working on the roadside. Don't use lead ammunition when hunting—it poisons us.

I’m sorry I look like a "villain."
But your community is disease-free because of me.

Yeah! Our cemetery lawn mower is fixed. But we are still looking for a good used machine for a backup.

Updating Benton Cemetery information. In July of 2024 we sponsored a Cemetery Preservation Workshop along with the Foundation for American History. It featured Jonathan Appell who put on a demonstration on how to repair tombstones. He repaired two of our tombstones: William H Robinson who is buried in A14 and Frederick King who is buried in A12.

Many thanks to Scott and Mike Nelson for fixing our gates once again. These two guys have always been there when we require a fix which I am unable to do. But it would probably be better if the public was a little more careful; the cemetery fence and gates are over 100 years old.
