This Sunday, February 15, is the last Sunday before the season of Lent, which begins Ash Wednesday, February 18th @6:30 pm. We will shout our Alleluia’s as we pray and seek Christ afresh together, preparing our hearts for the upcoming Forty Days of Prayer and Fasting.
The Last Sunday after Epiphany is the church’s celebration of Christ at his Transfiguration, Matt. 17:1-13. The Transfiguration was the event of Jesus’s outward humanity being overwhelmed by the beauty of his inner being—the glory of the Only Begotten Son of God. The Transfiguration proceeded from within Christ’s inner life and transformed his whole appearance from the inside out. Jesus’s glory manifested to the world.
The Transfiguration has deep implications for us as we anticipate being glorified at the Return of Christ. This unique and one-time event in the life of Christ gives us great hope that one day we will see Jesus as he is and we will be like him in glory. "Beloved, we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is” (1 John 3: 2 NIV).
