I woke up and my wife was gone. Her side of the bed was cold. It was 4 am. She could not sleep. I went back to bed and was praying. I recalled the date, and my heart went out to single people - on Valentine's Day. Quite a number are in the church we pastor.
In the US, 50% of adults over 18 are single. In Sonoma County, the statistics are the same. This is over 240,000 people. About 1/3 have never married. 11-15% are divorced. 2-7% are widowed (https://censusreporter.org/profiles/05000US06097-sonoma-county-ca/).
There are an amazing number of single people in our neighborhoods!
Lonliness is the most noticable bane of singleness. Who to talk to? Who to be with? How many people go through a whole week without someone to hug them, smile at them, and share a meal with? How many people get hard news about their health - alone? It breaks my heart!
Does God notice? Does God care? Does He have a solution? The question to all three is YES!
His solution is in your neighborhood. It is your local church. A speaker came to our church, last week, and commented on how friendly the people were, as he observed their interaction with each other.
You come here, and you have friends. You have people who will take notice of you, care for what you care for, pray with you about things that touch you - and even hug you, if you want. Many in our church get one hug a week, and it is here.
YOU are invited!
