Graham UMC Weekly Newsletter
Thursday May 7, 2026
Dear church family and friends,
Grace and peace to you from the Lord Jesus Christ! I hope this newsletter finds you well. I know we have all enjoyed the rain we have experienced this past week including this morning.
This Sunday we will honor mothers and mother figures in our lives. This day is joyous for some, comes with mixed emotions for others, or can be downright difficult for still others. Wherever you may find yourself, please know we desire to honor that.
While we are grateful to God for godly mothers who have loved and taught us, we recognize that is not the case for everyone. Also, there are many women who, while not our biological mother, have played that role in our lives and in doing so have made an eternal difference. If you are blessed to have a mother or mother-figure in your life, be sure to contact them and let them know how much you love and appreciate them. Whether this day finds you rejoicing, grieving, or somewhere in-between, please know that you are seen and you are loved.
It's no coincidence that we reflect on courageous mothers the same week we study Joshua's call to lead. The theme of the sermon this Sunday is leading courageously. Our Scripture is Joshua 1:5-9. Joshua was about to fill the big shoes Moses had left behind and lead God’s people into the Promised Land. No ordinary task, but Joshua had the promise of an extraordinary God who would be with him (Josh. 1:5,9).
Some of us have been fortunate to have mothers or mother-figures in our lives who have led courageously. For me, it was watching my Mom as a single parent give sacrificially to take care of my brother, Brian, and me. She didn’t have an easy task, and she battled cancer in the midst of that, and came out the victor all glory to God! During that time we were uplifted and supported by the love, prayers, and presence of our church family at St. Mark. As a small child, I experienced the Church as the Body of Christ.
Whatever your experience has been, like Joshua, we can claim the promise of God to be with us (Josh. 1:5,9). This was why Joshua was able to lead courageously, because God would be with him. It was not his own effort or courage, but the presence and power of his faithful God. This is true for us as well.
Join us this week as we celebrate the God who enables us to lead courageously. We have Sunday School at 10:00 a.m. and worship at 11:00 a.m. You can watch us live right here on Facebook as well. Services are uploaded every week to YouTube; you can find us at http://www.youtube.com/ .
