Hayward church of Christ

Hayward church of Christ Hayward church of Christ is a group of Christians who believe the Bible to be the fully, verbally inspired Word of God. Edifying and encouraging each other.

We follow the New Testament as our rule in faith and practice. We believe that Jesus Christ, God in the flesh (John 1:14), was crucified, buried, and raised from the dead ( 1 Corinthians 15:1-4). The sacrifice of Jesus, for the sins of all mankind, motivates and compels us to give our lives in service to God. We continuously strive to become more like Christ through:

Evangelizing our community an

d preaching the gospel throughout the world. Seeking opportunities to serve and be benevolent. Worshiping in spirit and in truth ( John 4:24).

We don't just need to hear what God can do; we need to see what He has done. When you can say, Doors closed, but God opened others, or I survived what I thought would ruin me, your testimony becomes a lifeline to others. What has God brought you through? 🚪✨

Our message last week dealt with a subject that we do not talk about enough: su***de. But it was also for anyone who has ever felt overwhelmed by the weight of life.

If you are struggling, or you know someone who is, I hope you will take some time to listen and share it with someone who may need it.

Tomorrow Morning at Hayward Church of Christ

What happens when something in your life begins to have more control over you than it should?

Addiction does not always begin with someone deciding to lose control. Sometimes it begins as a way to cope with stress, pain, loneliness, or pressure. But over time, what we once turned to for relief can begin controlling us, bringing us under the power and influence of sin.

Tomorrow morning, we'll open God’s Word and talk about “How to Break the Power of Addiction” from 1 Corinthians 6:12, 19–20.

Whether addiction has touched your life personally or the life of someone you love, I believe God’s Word can help.
Join us tomorrow morning at the Hayward Church of Christ.

What you are feeling right now is incredibly real, but your feelings don't know what God is going to do next. 🌅 The pain you feel in this season won't last forever. Our limits are designed to push us to completely trust the God who raises the dead! Have you surrendered it to Him yet? 🕊️

¹⁴But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires.
~ Romans 13:14
¹⁶But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. ¹⁷For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do. ¹⁸But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. ¹⁹Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, ²⁰idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, ²¹envy, drunkenness, or**es, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. ²²But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, ²³gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. ²⁴And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. ²⁶If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit. ²⁶Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.
~ Galatians 5:16-25
¹I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, ²with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, ³eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. ⁴There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call— ⁵one Lord, one faith, one baptism, ⁶one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.

²¹“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.
~ Matthew 7:21
²¹But he answered them, “My mother and my brothers are those who hear the word of God and do it.”
~ Luke 8:21
¹²For all who have sinned without the law will also perish without the law, and all who have sinned under the law will be judged by the law. ¹³For it is not the hearers of the law who are righteous before God, but the doers of the law who will be justified.
~ Romans 2:12-13
⁹..that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, ½⁰so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him: bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God;
~ Colossians 1:9b-10
²³Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men,
~ Colossians 3:23
²²But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.
~ James 1:22
¹⁴What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him?
~ James 2:14
¹⁷So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. ¹⁸But someone will say, “You have faith and I have works.” Show me your faith apart from your works, and I will show you my faith by my works. ¹⁹You believe that God is one; you do well. Even the demons believe—and shudder! ²⁶For as the body apart from the spirit is dead, so also faith apart from works is dead.
~ James 2:17-19, 26

WHEN PAIN TELLS YOU THERE IS NO TOMORROW

There are some subjects we do not talk about much in church, and su***de is one of them. Yet silence does not make the struggle disappear. Su***de is complicated, and there is rarely one simple explanation for how someone reaches that place. But sometimes pain becomes so great that a person begins to lose hope that anything will ever change. Tomorrow starts looking like another day of what already hurts today. That is why we need to talk about it, because there may be someone around us who has never attempted to take their life, but in a painful moment has wondered whether life was worth continuing.

The Bible does not hide this reality. Saul was wounded in battle, facing defeat, and took his own life (1Samuel 31:3-5). Judas reached a different kind of darkness. After betraying Jesus, he became “remorseful,” returned the thirty pieces of silver, and took his own life (Matthew 27:3-5). Judas’ story is especially painful because while he was overwhelmed by what he had done, Jesus was on His way to the cross for sinners. Judas did not live to see the empty tomb. He did not see Peter, who had denied Jesus, restored and given work to do (John 21:15-17). Our darkest moment does not give us a complete picture of what God can still do.

Then there is Paul. He did not take his life, but he knew what it was to reach his limit. He said that he and his companions were “burdened beyond measure, above strength, so that we despaired even of life” (2 Corinthians 1:8). Paul lived beyond the moment when he despaired of life. He later testified that God “delivered us from so great a death, and does deliver us; in whom we trust that He will still deliver us” (2 Corinthians 1:10). Paul could not see everything ahead of him while he was suffering, and neither can we.

That is why we must take hopelessness seriously. If you ever reach a place where you are thinking about ending your life, tell somebody. Do not carry that thought alone. And if someone trusts you enough to tell you, listen, stay with them, and help them get the care they need. God tells us, “Bear one another’s burdens” (Galatians 6:2). What you see in your darkest moment is not everything there is to see. Do not let today’s pain decide that there can be no tomorrow.
