The Vine Mission Update
June 2026
CONFIRMATION
Two of our young people, Evelyn Sloan and Jeremy McDevitt, celebrated the Rite of Confirmation last month. They had the opportunity to publicly profess their faith in Jesus by writing an essay and then reading it to the congregation during the service. They both did a great job! After the service, they each received a confirmation certificate and a special confirmation plaque to commemorate this special day.
RUMMAGE SALE
Last month we did a rummage sale at our church. The main purpose of this event was to get to know our church neighbors and people from the community that we might not otherwise get the opportunity to meet. It also gave them an opportunity to see the inside of our building and meet our members. It was a great way for us to continue to connect with the people we are trying to reach for Jesus. In addition, we were blessed to have several people from the rummage sale attend our worship service the following Sunday.
MOTHER’S DAY
On Mother’s Day this year, the children of our congregation sang a song for the mothers in our congregation. They also honored all the mothers by giving them a carnation to take home with them.
BABY BOTTLE BOOMERANG
At our Mother’s Day worship service, as a community service project, we did a “Baby Bottle Boomerang.” We handed out baby bottles to everyone and asked them to fill them with coins and then return them on Father’s Day. The money will be donated to the WELS Central Africa Medical Mission which provides medical care for mothers and their children under 5 years old in Malawi and Zambia.
PENTECOST REFRESHMENTS
For refreshments on Pentecost Sunday, our members brought various foods “from every nation under heaven” (Acts 2:5); i.e. foods that reflected their heritage or culture or a country where they have lived. We had so many different foods from a wide variety of cultures. It was fun tasting as many as we could.
MEMORIAL DAY REFRESHMENTS
At our city’s Memorial Day Ceremony, our congregation provided refreshments for the people who attended the event. It was a meaningful community service project, and it gave us an opportunity to make more connections with our community. The people we met afterwards told us they appreciated what we did for this event.
