“For we do not preach ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, and ourselves as your servants for Jesus’ sake. For God, who said, ‘Let light shine out of darkness,’ made His light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ” (2 Corinthians 4:5-6).

For the aspiring and active preacher, Silent Saturday is a holy pause. It’s the day between the sacrifice of the Cross and the victory of the Resurrection.

We know the end of the story, but today we sit in the silence. We pray for our fellow Friends who are—in this very moment—searching their hearts, waiting on the Light, and writing the words they are called to proclaim tomorrow.

The depth of your message is often found in the silence of today.

Heavenly Father, today we wait.

We sit with the sealed tomb, holding the weight of the Gospel. Father, would the silence of today enhance the proclamation of tomorrow.

Father, we pray that the prepared messengers of tomorrow be fueled by the heaviness of our Savior in a sealed tomb. Before we celebrate the risen Savior, help us sit with the beaten and broken man who brought our sin to the cross and died for it.

May that sacrifice be the heart behind the pulpit tomorrow. Father, we pray that you would fill and empower those who carry the weight of the Gospel tomorrow.

AMEN.

"The universal ministry does not come to flower except when it is nourished deliberately... The only way in which to produce it is to train a minority for this holy task." — Elton Trueblood

In this week's episode, join our conversation with David Robinson. From his early days as a bi-vocational pastor to his time as a Yearly Meeting Superintendent, David has seen every side of Friends' ministry.

We discuss the "Paradox of Quaker Ministry"—the idea that we need trained leaders not because we don't believe in the ministry of the people, but because we believe in it so powerfully that we want to make it genuine.

Listen now!

How does a preacher move from a "momentary flash of inspiration" to a message that truly nourishes the "Universal Ministry"? In this episode, we sit down with David Robinson—former pastor, seminary president, and Mid-America Yearly Meeting Superintendent. David traces his journey from preaching hi...
