At least 10 people are dead and dozens injured in New Orleans after a driver plowed a car into a crowd of New Year's revelers on Bourbon Street, police and city officials said.

“Yesterday”

“But you will not leave in haste or go in flight; for the Lord will go before you, the God of Israel will be your rear guard.” Isaiah 52:12

“Security from yesterday. ‘God requireth that which is past’ (Ecclesiastes 3:15 kjv). At the end of the year, we turn with eagerness to all that God has planned for our future. And yet anxiety is likely to arise from remembering our past. Our present enjoyment of God’s grace is likely to be tempered by the memory of yesterday’s sins and blunders. But God is the God of our yesterdays. He allows the memory of them in order to turn the past into a ministry for the future. He reminds us of the past so that we won’t put our trust in the shallow security of the present.

Security for tomorrow. ‘For the Lord will go before you.’ It’s a gracious revelation that God will go where we have failed to go. He will watch out for us, so that the things that tripped us up before won’t trip us up again. If he weren’t our rear guard, this is surely what would happen. God’s hand reaches back to the past and makes way for conscience.

Security for today. ‘You will not leave in haste.’ As we set out into the coming year, let it not be in the haste of impetuous, unremembering delight, nor in impulsive thoughtlessness, but with the patient power of knowing that the God of Israel will go before us. Our yesterdays present irreparable things to us; it is true that we have lost opportunities that will never return. But God can transform destructive anxiety into a constructive thoughtfulness for the future. Let the past sleep, but let it sleep in Christ. Leave the irreparable past in his hands and step into the irresistible future with him.”

'Then you will call upon Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. 'And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart. 'And I will be found by you,' declares the LORD, 'and I will restore…’” Jeremiah 29:11-14b

A window of Grace and opportunity has been opened to us America. May we purposefully use it as a time to call passionately upon the Lord, to pray fervently for His mercy and grace, to seek after Him, after His purpose, and after His plan, with all of our hearts. And, may we draw nearer to Jesus than ever before, in order that our eyes can see, and our Nation experience, a fulfillment of the promise of restoration like we have never known.

“My Utmost For His Highest”
(Daily Devotional 11/4/24)

“Draw nigh to God, and He will draw nigh to you.” James 4:8

“It is essential to give people a chance of acting on the truth of God. The responsibility must be left with the individual, you cannot act for him, it must be his own deliberate act, but the evangelical message ought always to lead a man to act. The paralysis of refusing to act leaves a man exactly where he was before; when once he acts, he is never the same. It is the foolishness of it that stands in the way of hundreds who have been convicted by the Spirit of God. Immediately I precipitate myself over into an act, that second I live; all the rest is existence. The moments when I truly live are the moments when I act with my whole will.

Never allow a truth of God that is brought home to your soul to pass without acting on it, not necessarily physically, but in will. Record it, with ink or with blood. The feeblest saint who transacts business with Jesus Christ is emancipated the second he acts; all the almighty power of God is on his behalf.

We come up to the truth of God, we confess we are wrong, but go back again; then we come up to it again, and go back; until we learn that we have no business to go back. We have to go clean over on some word of our redeeming Lord and transact business with Him. His word ‘come’ means ‘transact.’ ‘Come unto Me.’ The last thing we do is to come; but everyone who does come knows that that second the supernatural rush of the life of God invades him instantly. The dominating power of the world, the flesh and the devil is paralysed, not by your act, but because your act has linked you on to God and His redemptive power.”
