01/08/2026
So here we are in a New Year. And yes, we know that whether we like it or not, want it or not, a lot will change around us. The dates on our checks (if we still write them) have (or will) become 2026. Businesses will have plans for the new year. Every television show is talking about weight loss or makeovers for the New Year. Sometimes I think the pressure (real or just forced on us) is well – pressure. Yes, a New Year gives me an opportunity to reflect upon the last 12 months, but I am a bit tired of all the pressure and hype of everything having to be New in the New Year.
So, with that in mind, just for a few seconds I want to look at a text that is so small in the gospel of Matthew it is most often overlooked. Matthew 13:52: “And Jesus said to them, ‘Therefore every scribe who has become a disciple of the kingdom of heaven is like a head of a household, who brings out of his treasure new things and old.’” OLD AND NEW. With that, comments: 1) Take a few moments to Look Back and take what was working in 2025 and carry it forward, especially those things that brought you closer to and more like Jesus – the OLD TREASURES; 2) Change or drop what wasn’t; especially those things that were not helpful in your life with Christ; 3) Some things are just gonna carry forward from 2025 – commit them to the Lord; 4) Expect, anticipate and ask for something New from the Lord this year; again and especially, what will bring you closer to Him and more like Him – THE NEW TREASURES. And the biggie: Remember: God is the same in this new year as before. Put your trust in Him.
