The Legacy of Quimby Church:
Last Thursday we “broke bread” with our District Superintendent to discuss the future of the Quimby church. The painful reality is that our declining attendance and associated lack of participation in our ministries has led us to the conclusion that the potential for Quimby to grow into a vital, engaging place of worship and ministry is not likely to happen. The members of the church decided that it was time to celebrate the ministries and positive contributions that Quimby has made over the years and to close the church gracefully. As we hear in the Gospels, it is only in dying that a seed can bear forth much fruit. The members of the church have indicated that they would like to dedicate the remaining assets of the church to local ministries and social programs. In that way the legacy of Quimby church will bring forth much fruit by enabling these other ministries.
Next week on Saturday, 6/16, we will gather together for food, fellowship, fun and worship. No services will be held at Quimby on Sunday, 6/17.
The next week on Sunday, 6/24, we will have our last worship service and conduct a closing service for Quimby.
There are many details around this time. We will strive to meet everyone’s spiritual needs in a caring and compassionate way. Our hopes and prayers are that as we recover from the shock and pain of this separation, that another church family will provide each of us a place of spiritual nourishment and growth.
