Quimby UMC's Last worship service on June 24, 2018, Part 1.

06/22/2018

Hello All,
We have finally come to the end. This will be the last worship service for Quimby United Methodist Church. It is a sad time for our church family, but we have laid seeds for others to continue to serve God's Kingdom!

Our leaders have decided to give sizable donations to:
- Barry County Cares (local)
- Family Promise (local)
- Green Gables Shelter (local)
- My Alpha Place (local)
- Heifer International

This will be a special worship service! We will have Holy Communion, Sophia and Sandra Smith will be confirmed and received into full membership. We will have special musical presentations.

Although a sad time - it will also be a joyous celebration of God's awesome grace and love.

See ya!
Pastor Jerry

In this message from Quimby on June 10th Pastor Jerry shares his insights and reflections on changes in the atmosphere and direction of our Annual Conference from legislation to Transformational Outreach and Ministry. This is an exciting breath of fresh air! We also talk about the legacy of Quimby, the joys and sadness - a bitter sweet time. The last topic shares the deeply spiritual insights of our Council of Bishops on the division in our country and in our Denomination around "human sexuality". Again, a perspective that gives us space, yet keeps us focused on our mission to care for Jesus' sheep, the lost, the hungry. Listen in!

The Legacy of Quimby Church:
Last Thursday we “broke bread” with our District Superintendent to discuss the future of the Quimby church. The painful reality is that our declining attendance and associated lack of participation in our ministries has led us to the conclusion that the potential for Quimby to grow into a vital, engaging place of worship and ministry is not likely to happen. The members of the church decided that it was time to celebrate the ministries and positive contributions that Quimby has made over the years and to close the church gracefully. As we hear in the Gospels, it is only in dying that a seed can bear forth much fruit. The members of the church have indicated that they would like to dedicate the remaining assets of the church to local ministries and social programs. In that way the legacy of Quimby church will bring forth much fruit by enabling these other ministries.

Next week on Saturday, 6/16, we will gather together for food, fellowship, fun and worship. No services will be held at Quimby on Sunday, 6/17.

The next week on Sunday, 6/24, we will have our last worship service and conduct a closing service for Quimby.

There are many details around this time. We will strive to meet everyone’s spiritual needs in a caring and compassionate way. Our hopes and prayers are that as we recover from the shock and pain of this separation, that another church family will provide each of us a place of spiritual nourishment and growth.

We learn from the Bible that the Holy Spirit has the power to transform us from being worldly focused, self-serving people; to being the Holy and adopted children of God forever in His arms of mercy through the grace of Jesus Christ. Today's message talks about that power and the awesome nature of our Triune God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit!

This message is from the Quimby worship on Pentecost. The celebration of the outpouring of hte Holy Spirit on all of God's people. This is a message of God's never-ending love for His people, the actions He has taken to rescue us from ourselves and this trouble and broken world, and how we care to respond to His awesome love!
